Sabra Som

collapse expand iconDescription

The Sabra Som ST4 Four Mic Bar is a multi-microphone mount. It uses 4 sliding mic mounts on a longer 11" bar so you can mount up to four microphones onto one mic stand. Four mic mounts can be individually moved along the bar and the bar itself can be tilted left to right or used vertically.

For a really wide stereo panorama, use this bar to set 4 mics on one stand with two approximately 45 degrees right and left of center and the other two approximately 55 degrees right and left. Record all 4 channels separately. The result is a much wider stereo image than you'd get with just a pair.

This thing is a major pain to use, and it's unreliable and so flimsy that your fear is in peril with its use. It's so poorly made that it flops around like crazy, no matter what, at every connection point. It's unreliable and the machining on the screws is so poor, that it took a herculean attempt to unscrew them, nearly every time, once the adapter ring is barely tightened enough to hold the mic in place. It's a poor design because you shouldn't need an adapter for the most common mount type. The smaller one should be the adapter, and the larger one the regular mount. They saved a few cents on construction, and we have to spend a huge amount of extra effort to make it work day in, day out. It's stupid! Even worse, they got stuck over and over again. The most recent was so bad that it required extreme measures to remove it and it had to be mutilated to get it out! Anyway you look at it, it's a half-baked design that needs much improvement, and the quality of fit and finish go far beyond bad quality, to the extreme of putting expensive gear in danger. I also bought the similar shockmount and it's the same poor design and poor manufacturing. I will try to remember the name Sabra Som and never buy their products again. This goes far beyond simply cheap stuff; it's inexcusably bad at any price!

Nice bar. Decent considering that larger bars go for 4-5 times as much
