The Sennheiser e 614 is a supercardioid back-electret condenser microphone. The e 814 mic was designed for demanding instrument recordings that require extended frequency response, high SPL, fast transient response and compact mic size. While percussion pickup was the first design priority, the e 614 also works exceptionally well on woodwind and string instruments, and is a good choice for flute and sax where it captures the full body of the instrument. The e 614 can handle high SPLs and features a medium sensitivity, which ensures reduced bleed from other instruments onstage. Because of its excellent acoustic properties this mic is also ideal for home recording.

Designed for demanding applications where extended frequency range, high SPL,
fast transient response and small size are required. Captures the "air" and the body of the instrument. Nearly flat response from 40Hz to 20kHz and a super cardioid pattern. Includes pouch and mic clip.

Requires phantom power.

Here is a great inexpensive condensor microphone. I chose the e614 because of it's compact size and it's "super-cardoid" polar pattern. My normal uses for this microphone are around the drums. Either as Hi-Hat and Ride Cymbal pair or as Overheads. The tighter cardoid pattern allows me to open up these mics a little more in a loud stage situation. They reject more of the loud backline instruments and allow the drum kit to come alive. I tried the mics in some other situations, (acoustic guitar, room ambience, handheld percussion table), and found that I liked what I got in every situation. So, another pair of simple and inexpensive Sennheiser microphones are now always in my bag.
