collapse expand iconDescription

The Sennheiser MD 421-II microphone is a versatile large-diaphragm, dynamic mic and studio staple. The MD 421-II continues Sennheiser's 35-year tradition of sonic excellence with a mic built to handle high sound pressure levels. Its full-bodied cardioid pickup pattern and five-position bass roll-off make the MD 421-II an excellent choice for most instruments, group vocals and broadcast applications.

Versatile Sound for Any Application

The MD 421-II's ability to capture a wide range of audio sources with stunning accuracy is what has made this mic a legend. Its cardioid polar pattern reduces unwanted background noise while maintaining a full frequency response. The five-position bass roll-off allows you to adjust the low-end response to perfectly suit your needs, whether recording pounding toms, growling guitars or mellow vocals.

Roadworthy and Reliable

Like all Sennheiser gear, the MD 421-II is built to exacting standards to handle the rigors of studio and live work. Its solid metal construction and shockmounted capsule provide outstanding mechanical noise rejection so you get pristine recordings every time. An included stand clamp makes positioning quick and easy. When it's time to pack up, the included carrying case will keep your MD 421-II safe for the road.

A Classic Reborn

The MD 421-II improves upon the original MD 421 microphone with a redesigned capsule for even better high-end clarity and definition. Lower self-noise and higher maximum SPL handling provide a wider dynamic range to capture every nuance. Updated electronics offer improved sensitivity and frequency response for sonic accuracy across the entire audible spectrum.

Affordable Excellence

With its outstanding quality and performance, the Sennheiser MD 421-II represents unbeatable value for money. As one of the music industry's most trusted and widely used professional microphones, the MD 421-II delivers world-class sound at an affordable price. Experience the mic that's a staple of studios and stages worldwide.

I've been wanting to buy a Sennheiser MD421 for awhile. I record my guitar with a few Marshall 4 x 12 and Port City 2 x 12. One of the Marshall has 4 different speakers a few Celestion and Scumback speakers and I like to blend them with different mics like 5 Shure 57 on each speakers, a Royer 121, Neuman UA87 and now with the MD421 my guitar sounds amazing with the MD421 by itself and combined with my other mics. It has a different top end than the SM57. I like the combination of the MD421, SM57 and 121. I'm really glad I purchased the MD421 and I can't wait to try more combinations with different speakers!!!

WOW. I gotta say I am impressed with how many applications this mic can be used for. Sounds professional for recording drums, amps, horns, and probably anything else. One of the biggest things for me with this mic is I went from using SM57s and 58s for the horn players in my band (more specifically my saxophone player) to the MD421 and there is a night and day difference in clarity! Didn't have any issues with feedback or trouble hearing the sax at all. I am so glad I have the mic in my collection. I am almost tempted to buy one more!

I got this for my husband for Christmas and he absolutely loves it. Sounds great with his voice and he can use it to mic his guitar if needed, too. I did some research before purchase, and this works well in his basement studio room. It doesn't pick up extraneous house or street noises.

Is this mic more of an instrument microphone rather than a vocal microphone? I'm looking for a Sennheiser microphone that's geared more towards vocals and can be used for instruments, rather than geared for instruments and can be geared for vocals. I'm not sure if one exists

How should I position or "aim" the Seinhesser MD 421 at a guitar cabinet when using using it as the second mic along with the shure sm57 (with the shure sm57 being directly on the middle of the speaker)?

It depends on how many speakers are in the cab, you want to position it between the middle and edge of one of the speakers.
