Sennheiser e 602 II Cardioid Instrument Microphone

Great sounding for Bass cabs it has that BOOM! still yet to try on a kick drum but for my current cab it sounds insane!!

This e 602 II has been in my possession for a week now and I've had no issues so far. It has been without a doubt a great purchase. It give great lows and body to my kick drum before I've even mixed or EQ'd it! I'm interested in seeing how durable it will be in the future. Great buy and great price!

The sound guy at a show I played used these to mic my bass drums and I thought it was the best my kit had sounded so far. I bought two of these to mic my bass drums at home. Sounds wonderful and the design easily fits through a port hole to mic the beater head from inside the bass drum. This combined with my beta 52a's on the resonant heads sounds so sweet it's ridiculous.

I've had this mic for several years now, but never really gave it much of a chance. I bought it because it was fairly cheap and I needed another LD Dynamic for when I record live bands. It wasn't until a few months ago that a friend of mine was showing me a recording he was working on, I asked what he used on the kick, because it sounded so warm, and there was no sibilance in it. I was pretty shocked when he told me it was the e602 II. The next chance I got I did a shootout with my usuals. A beta 52a, D112, and D6. The end result is that I have now made the beta 52a my backup mic, the D6 my snap/beater mic, and the e602 II for my outside mic. The D112 is now my bass cab mic for live bands. I'm surprised that such a warm tone comes out of this relatively budget mic. Its pretty solid but really light weight. I gave it 4 stars because its output level is a little low, it doesn't have an internal shock mount, and no gold contacts. But I believe thats where the e802 comes in... that might be next on my list. Don't over think this mic just because its not as popular as some of the other standards.

After hearing the original e602 model and noticing a flaw in the design, (see "physics of microphone technology" circa 2007), I decided not to buy the microphone at that time. Now, the updated version comes out and "woohoo," what a great sounding microphone. My normal uses for this model are for Kick Drum, Large Brazillian or Oriental Drums and for Bass Guitar Amps and Upright Basses. I decided to try the mic out on several other applications, like a nylon acoustic guitar and as the "floor" mic in a setup of room ambience mics. In every application this mic works great. The rejection of unwanted material is great and the tone of the mic is warm and pure giving good reference of the audio source.
