Shaker

collapse expand iconDescription

This is the original Shaker. It broke all the rules 22 years ago, and is still giving harp players a big wall of sound in a smaller, easier-to-cup blues tool. It is designed for harp players seeking huge, fat tone, and strong harmonic content with almost no feedback.

The volume control has 11 micro-detents, or clicks, that tells you where your mic volume is set at, giving you a point of reference and more control of your sound.

All Shaker mics are designed as hybrid units, which means they utilize dynamic low-z elements wired like a guitar in high-z mode. Plug any Shaker directly into any amp, it works awesome, giving you great tone, response and dynamics (The Shaker Sound).

If you use a Shaker mic with an impedance matching transformer into the input of your amp, your Shaker mic becomes super charged, driving your amp into aural overdrive. All Shaker harmonica microphones are really two very different units in one. Direct to amp has the traditional Shaker tone and response. Used with a line-matching transformer and you get high output - hot and driven. Maximum flexibility, it’s your choice.

Excellent MIC

Got this mic yesterday and it sounds EXCELLENT. Very easy to hold. VERY LIGHT, feels like your just holding the weight of the mic cable instead of the mic. Volume control on the mic itself is very handy. Great sound, clean or with effects. Highly recommend .

So Far, So Good

I use the mic for live club performances in a blues and rock band. I decided to try this because of the smaller size and weight as compared to my green bullet. I plugged it straight into my small amp and was a little disappointed with the low volume level, apparently due to it being low impedance. Then ran it through a SansAmp and turned on the phantom power and plugged it straight into the mixing board. This gave me a satisfactory volume level. I like the tone, a little more traditional bluesy, fatter and smoother than the bullet. It may take me a bit to get used to the size and shape after years with a bullet, but I've only used it so far at one rehearsal, and it was starting to feel pretty good by the end of the night. I like the smaller size and lighter weight as it is easier to fully cup the mic. I also like the fact that it has a 1/4 plug rather than an attached cord. The cord on my bullet started to short out which is the main reason I started looking for an alternative. I also like the "click" volume nob. This could easily get to a four star rating with a little more use.

If you are buying this, just go ahead and get the Little Imp impedance transformer and a XLR to 1/4 cable. Easily doubles the volume and just blows this thing up! I have the Shaker Retro Rocket and the standard Shaker and a dozen other mics like a hot 70s 520D green bullet and Astatic crystal. I only play my Shakers now...THE BEST!

Sweet sound, easier to hold than my big harp mic. Almost sounds like the harmonica is playing me. I like that I can use effects and gain more with no feedback. Makes playing even more fun. Looking forward to jamming with others, out in a small town in the mountains. All in all great mic so far and made in the USA!!! And it works great with wireless guitar system.

I received this mic on Wednesday, and played a gig on Saturday. It sounded Fantastic through the system that the band had set up. Nice volume , and had a nice Chicago style blues growl. I have been using a Red Howler bullet type up till then. This will be my new go to mic 4 sure. Small, Light weight, a 10 click volume control, and fits nicely in the hands, plenty of room for cupping.

  • It's to large, a small person can't hold it and harmonica

I play mostly acoustic harmonica, but when I want to get some dirty on it, I pull out my tube amp and blast away. I had been using a Green Bullet, but wanted something smaller and more manageable. The Shaker Dynamic does the trick.
