I don't like the sound of electric violins (I gig for blues, celtic, country, wedding, and pop bands). I also didn't want to buy an acoustic electric violin because unless you're talking big bucks, the money usually goes towards the pick up gear, and not a quality violin. For violin, this set up is ideal. I purchased a cushion for the chin rest so the alligator clip doesnt scratch the chinrest and I let the Mic rest close to the f hole. The sound is a clear, projected acoustic violin. You can also sing right into it without moving the violin (no more confusion or stress when playing and singing the Devil Went Down to Georgia!) The only issue I've had was at a venue where the monitor aimed right at the musicians, which is good for lead guitarists, but causes immediate feedback on the violin. However, with smaller bands, this mic is absolutely perfect. Good battery charge, good distance from receiver, very portable, tough equipment, picks up pizzicatto. Makes playing easier and listening easier too. The audience and I hear changes in dynamics and articulations: something I really struggled with when playing into stand up mics.
