They are constructed of an ultra-thin material that closely approximates the feel and touch of a stick hitting a drum head.     These pads reduce the sound as indicated. They are a perfect fit, and enables you to hit as hard as you want without disturbing surrounding grouchy pants. A definate need if you don't have a dedicated area to practice.
