Description
Pristine audio quality. A Soundcraft tradition.
For over 40 years, audio professionals have trusted Soundcraft mixing solutions for pristine sound quality and reliable performance. Notepad series mixers continue this tradition with professional-grade Soundcraft microphone preamps, convenient XLR and ¼ in. connectors, and durable metal enclosures.
Comfortably familiar. Incredibly powerful.
You’ll find yourself right at home with Notepad’s traditional channel strip layout. Two EQ controls per channel give you a level of convenience often reserved for larger consoles. A rotary headphone volume fader makes it easy to adjust your personal listening level, while a master level with LED metering provides precise control over your master output signal. Designed for home studios, rehearsals, live performances, and podcast production, the Notepad series provides a layout that’s familiar to audio professionals yet easy to grasp for beginners.
Perfect for Rehearsals, Gigs, and More
The deceptively compact Notepad mixers easily fit in a gear bag and provide plenty of capability for writing sessions, rehearsals and gigs. Notepad mixers provide iconic Soundcraft performance and connect your favorite gear like microphones, guitars, keyboards and more. With three models available (Notepad-5, -8FX and -12FX), there’s a Notepad mixer that’s a perfect match—whether you’re a singer-songwriter or a small rock ensemble.
Your All-in-one Podcasting Solution

The Notepad-5 is a great solution if you’re just starting out and don’t want to compromise on sound quality. From capturing monologues to interviews with multiple panelists, Notepad mixers are designed to help you share your ideas with the world.

Falls short in key areas

Thought this mixer would help consolidate a mixer and audio interface into one unit, but it falls short in three key aspects. 1) The USB audio level is about 50% quieter than the analog output. Verified this with other users online and is a result of cheap components. 2) It is possible to alter USB channels 3/4 to be the channel strips 3/4 or the main mix, but when using software like Zoom or BandLab, they only see USB channels 1/2, so it's almost useless. 3) There is very noticeable scratchy noise when adjusting knobs on this unit.
Windows USB Drivers Are Unsigned

Great mixer that puts a lot of inputs and features into a very compact package. In particular I like the high impedance option on two of the channels for plugging guitars directly into the mixer. However if you plan to use the USB interface with DAW software and a Windows PC, you will have to reboot your PC in recovery mode and select load unsigned drivers to get it to work. It is hard to understand why Harmon requires this fundamental security flaw to use their product. It would be a 5 star product otherwise for me. The built-in effects are sent to the effects return channel which is different than mixers I've used in the past (you need to turn up the effects return channel volume).
Hummmmmmmm

Honestly, don't buy this for recording or any other application where actually want quality sound. So I may be a picky buyer: tried Behringer Xenyx... great, but cant record and do playback at the same time; Mackie - okay for recording, but playback is saturated and useless. The Soundcraft - EQ is useless, constant humming, had to put my toe on the board to make it stop. So far, and I guess I'll buy another, the Alesis mutlimix was clear, great EQ and no hum. Only problem is the USB breaks easily.

Re: Soundcraft Notepad FX: From the photo it appears that the RCA input for connection to a CD or iPad for break music is controlled by the channel 9/10 fader. Is that correct? There is also a USB connection directly under the RCA inputs. Can that be used to play music from an external ipad or iphone? Thanks, Jonathan
Yes, that is correct about the channel 9/10 fader. The USB is to connect the mixer to a computer. You would have to use the aux input for mobile devices.
