Soundcraft Ui Series Tutorial Chapter 1: Unboxing and getting started.

Description
Less Surface, More Freedom
Traditional mixers offer lots of functionality, but can only be controlled from the mix console position. The Ui24R surface-less mixer combines the power and versatility of a large-format console with a compact design and complete Wi-Fi control. With Ui24R, you can finally have the features you need, plus the freedom to control your mixer from anywhere in the venue.More Ways to Connect
When you need a mixer with comprehensive connections and a compact footprint, Ui24R provides the perfect, streamlined solution. The Ui24R allows you to mix from multiple sources including 10 combo 1/4"-TRS/XLR, 10 XLR, two line level inputs and two channels of digital USB playback for a total of 24 channels. With its flexible and high-quality I/O, Ui24R gives venues, bands and engineers room to grow, with expanded creative options.More Ways to Control
Control Ui24R from the device of your choice (tablet, phone, PC, Mac) via iOS, Android, Windows, Mac OS and Linux browsers, without installing apps. Onboard dual-band Wi-Fi ensures you (and up to nine members of the band) can always stay in control without relying on an independent router or the venue’s Wi-Fi. Musicians can adjust their individual mix on stage while the FOH engineer optimizes the audience experience.Multi-track Recording and Playback
Ui24R is more than just a complete mixing system—it’s also a top-notch recording tool. Enjoy peace of mind with dual-path, multi-track recording of all 22 inputs and your stereo mix, directly to a USB storage drive and a connected computer. The multi-channel USB audio interface also makes it easy to integrate the Ui24R into your recording studio for production work with your favorite DAW.Compatible With HARMAN Connected PA
The Ui24R mixer’s embedded ioSYS technology enables easier setup and control when used with the HARMAN Connected PA app and compatible products. Connected PA delivers seamless plug-and-play operation with a variety of HARMAN equipment and enables you to control your entire live sound system with one app. Products within the Connected PA ecosystem self-identify and retain presets for effortless setup, and setup wizards help you quickly optimize volume, configuration settings and sound quality (current products with embedded ioSYS technology and HARMAN Connected PA compatibility include JBL PRX800W loudspeakers, dbx DI1 direct boxes and AKG P5i microphones).

Presently surprised. It works like a champ!
After seeing the negative quality reviews on last years Ui16, I was concerned about this one. They said the Ui24R was a redesign and it seems like it is. I opened the box on Thursday and by the weekend ran a 4 hour live show with 5 bands using it with a hiccup! It mic preamps and effects sound great and the UI is intuitive. I'm crossing my fingers that it continues to be this stable.

A great product, sadly a short life on it.
Out of the box the installation was simple enough. When we first used it at our church we loved it. Removed the need for a snake from our old system and this sitting on stage and you being able to control it anywhere was amazing. A week in and we encounter the first "disconnection" on it so we bought a router for it. Set up again was not difficult and it's just a one time set up. It's served it's purpose well but I can't help to feel disappointed after 3 years. The first symptoms were connection loss to usb stick. Sometimes it wouldn't recognize the usb... another symptom, it would RESET all of our settings out of the blue for no reason. We'd come one day, turn it on, to find all of our mix settings rested. We'd have to manually load them. After couple of weeks this became an everyday thing. Now whatever settings we'd try to save, they just wouldn't stay in the mixers memory. Whatever scene we had PRIOR to this issue would still be there, but anything NEW we'd try to save into it just would not save. Not to mention the usb ports used to UPGRADE or DOWNGRADE firmware do not work anymore, so if it's a software issue, I have no way of RESETTING to factory firmware on it since the usb ports don't work anymore. Sadly no warranty past 3 years and gc coverage was only 2 years so now we are left with a piece of gear sitting in a shop somewhere waiting to be fixed while we have to use a secondary small mixer to serve our needs while the unit gets fixed. Have not had a word on the shop of HOW MUCH it will cost... but our studiolive we had served us for so many years and still kicking at a secondary room at church.. it breaks my heart a lil because it's soundcraft. I was expecting a lot more quality on the product. If you want a mixer that will last a long time, I'd look at a different brand and try your luck there. As far as this one goes, though it didn't give us much issues at first, it's a nightmare to live with once this "memory" issue kicks in.

I purchased this new and have had this mixer for 6 years. The only complaint I ever had was the internal wifi really didn't work very well. An external router fixed that easily. The APP is excellent, the Sound is Excellent. Great form factor. BUT BUT....it all doesn't matter if it's broken. OK, everything breaks eventually BUT, My mixer broke in February 2024 . I sent it to a factory authorized repair center. They have been waiting for parts now for almost 8 FREAKING MONTHS. I had to go buy a back up mixer to practice and do gigs. I doubt I will ever buy another Soundcraft product ever again.
Decent mixer, weak recording capability

Our band was generally not happy with the Soundcraft Ui24R. The GUI was ok and the sound quality was good. Its biggest downfall is inability to consistently record to the USB stick. It requires a specific format (FAT32) and USB must meet certain speed requirements. We used a MicroCenter USB with very good specs, and it only recorded to the USB the first time. One AUX channel appeared to occasionally drop (this is not confirmed). Occasionally the UI would reset to the opening screen from my Android notepad. We had enough and decided to upgrade to the Behringer X32 based on its superior reviews, heavy use, and good longterm track record.
Great mixer!

We use this mixer for our shows, and it works wonderfully! We all use in ears, and it has plenty of individual outputs! Sounds great and easy to operate once you get the menus down! I would highly recommend this for anyone wanting to DI and have ease of set up and use!
Fantastic until it fails.

Fantastic unit, amazing rta and effects super easy to use but when it fails and it will you have zero back up. Dead in the water with the whole crowd looking at you. I've done 23 shows with this since Feb when I bought it and it failed on my biggest gig. 3 days 2k people. Last I heard yesterday the service center said the main cpu burned for reasons they don't know now it has to go to Soundcraft and could be 2 months. I have shows every weeks different bands and as cool as it is when it works, I cannot recommend the Soundcraft UI24 .
Spectacular features, great sound, interface has major flaws

I have had the UI24r about a year and a half. During that time I've only used it in the studio. I wouldn't hesitate to use it live (or maybe I would, read on) but the pandemic has put my live music activities on hold. This unit has some amazing features: 24 inputs, 10 aux sends. Each channel has a complete channel strip, which in this case, since it's digital, means full eq (several kinds), effects, patching, 10 aux and 2 main sends. You have 32 channels of recording interface. The versatility and feature set of this unit is unmatched by any physical console I've used, analog or digital, especially for the price. The interface is both awesome and problematic. They've clearly put a lot of thought and work into the design, and most of the features are available in a straightforward and predictable fashion. Any confusion with the operation of the interface usually has to do with not understanding the feature you're trying to control. For instance, there are several patching sections on each channel that act like a physical patch bay to route signals. The UI handles it in a logical way, but it's struggle to completely understand what's going on when you have to constantly switch screens. If you're old like me and you've been using analog consoles your entire career, this represents a significant learning curve. You will have to learn some computer and networking concepts in order to use this. There are definitely bugs in the interface software. It will freeze or the display will become corrupted. Sometimes it slows to a crawl. The main problem is that there are several ways to access the control interface from a phone, tablet, or computer, and every single one of them is unreliable and intrusive. For that reason alone, I would hesitate to rely on this unit in a professional setting until you are certain you have consistently conquered all the quirks. After working with it for a year and a half and I am not to that point yet.
