Playability style and thump with a unfortunate hum

The Pros- So right out of the box this guitar wowed me with the look/feel and sound. It is such a pretty bass that feels great in your hand. It has a lot of versatility and clarity tonally and you could even detune a step and keep a good tone without changing strings or setting it up for lower tuning. Even though you only have a tone and a volume, I was actually able to get a lot of variety with those knobs just tweaking around and trying different positions. I prefer it with the volume maxed and the tone knob about 80 percent up. I can get some funky brightness to the notes if I dig a little or slap, but it isn't so treble-y that I can't just do some little bass lines that thump nicely. I'm able to also do some stretchy chords with it pretty easily and the notes of the chords are clear and not muddy when I do. I feel like the fret spacing is very comfortable (for a guy with average sized hands) and the action was pretty decent right out of the box. I really loved playing this instrument. It is downright fun to play! The cons- The number one issue I had - (I ordered online and bought sight unseen) was there is a grounding issue that causes a noticeable noise that you can stop by putting your hand on the strings. This is a no go for those who would want to record with it as the noise picks up on my Focus Rite immediately! It is a bummer to spend that kind of coin, and immediately encounter a problem. I took it back to the shop and tried the two other CV P Basses that were in the store just like mine in the surf green and they BOTH had the exact same problem! That suggests to me there must be a batch of these in the 2024 line that was not getting the TLC they needed. It also caused some problems as the tech guy at my shop is so backed up he couldn't deal with it for awhile. I traded it for another bass, but then wasn't as happy with how that bass played and the guy at GC here was super helpful and is going to take care of having his tech fix the grounding issue asap. The only other issues for me... The frets could stand to be addressed a little bit especially for those who would want a lower action, but it is passable. I might get that worked on, but the more I play it the more comfortable I got with it and might just keep it as is. The other issue for me is the glossy neck! That is something I 100 percent am going to get sanded down a bit to make it faster. It is such a great playing instrument. It sucks that it is hindered by this gummy gloss that slows you down as you play. I feel like I need to get some hand chalk like I'm playing pool or something with it. So for those few little issues I knock off a star. But for the money I feel like this is a real gem despite the inconvenience of the grounding issue. I played multiple basses in the shop in this price range and none came close honestly. And even some at higher price ranges weren't as fun. The one I found that might be somewhat comparable is the Sun Ray Music Man Sterling 24CA ..That's the one I traded for and brought back. After 2 hours slapping around on it, I determined I liked the CV better in almost every way other than the Sterling doesn't have the gloss on the neck. I would like to hear that Sterling with a better pickup though, but then you're looking at probably spending double what you spend on a CV. That's a nope for me.

Has potential

Overall the bass has potential. It's got a nice and comfortable neck profile, a nice finish and a good sounding pickup, however, the fret ends are like a cheese grater for you hands. It's one thing to have a few sharp fret ends but every single one was extremely sharp right out of the box. I guess I can't complain since this was less than 400$. But for new players who aren't experienced enough to fix this issue, this could be a problem for them. Overall it is a quality bass and I'm sure there have been others who received this bass with no fret issues. Squires craftsmanship can be a luck of the draw sometimes. Just be mindful of that before pulling the trigger on this.

Picking up bass with some guitar background. Feels excellent—neck is comfortable and frets are nicely done. No sharp edges. No buzz at all, which was a pleasant surprise right out of the store. Pick ups are fine. Big 70s headstock is a little unbalanced. Fun and smooth playing

Feels great, the neck is fantastic, it beat out two Stingray's one was about $100 more if that says anything? It needed a set-up but that's preference more than anything else, this bass made me fall in love with the instrument again

I bought this bass as a project to modify with a preamp and new pickups. However, I was amazed at the quality and sound of the bass before any modifications were done. I added a Preamp and now it is pretty close to my MIA Stingray. The neck is really nice and the PUP's are great

I am an amateur player, and I LOVE this bass! Frets are polished and smooth, even the ends, electronics sound great and the color scheme is beautiful. I really like the baked maple neck, and black accents, all of this combined with the surf green paint is *chef's kiss*. Zero regrets with this purchase.

I've been looking for a passive P-Bass, and I'm really enjoying the sound. It's holding it's tune very well, and I like the weight. I'm not overly crazy about the finish on the neck, my hand doesn't slide as smooth as some others. Overall, It's a pleasure to play and I'm glad I tried it.
