The John Petrucci JP70 7-String Electric Guitar from Sterling by Music Man is a force to be reckoned with. This signature model was engineered to the exacting standards of Dream Theater's own John Petrucci. Boasting high-output pickups, a modern tremolo and premium components throughout, the JP70 unleashes Petrucci's progressive metal prowess into the hands of players everywhere.

High-Output Pickups Provide Clarity and Sustain

House-designed humbucking pickups in the bridge and neck positions provide the JP70 with tremendous tonal range and articulation. Notes ring out with bell-like clarity, chords shimmer and bloom and leads soar endlessly. The pickups offer dynamic sensitivity, responding evenly to a feather-light touch or an aggressive attack. Their high output means endless sustain for legato lines and dive bombs alike. A 3-way selector switch lets you access either pickup individually or combine them for a tone as complex and nuanced as your playing.

Modern Tremolo System Opens a World of Expression

A full floating modern tremolo bridge provides the JP70 with a wealth of expressive potential. Dive bombs, scooped mids and warbling leads are all possible with the tremolo's fluid action and stability. Locking tuners help keep the guitar in tune even under heavy tremolo use, while a contoured forearm scoop offers comfortable accommodation for any technique. The tremolo system's broad range gives progressive players full creative license.

Premium Components and Construction

A nyatoh body, hard maple neck and rosewood fingerboard provide an exceptional tonal foundation for the JP70's premium pickups and bridge. The contoured body nestles comfortably against the player for long practice or performance sessions. 24 jumbo frets on a 16" radius fingerboard offer space for complex chords, legato runs and wide bends. Die-cast tuning machines, 5-bolt neck joint and a 1.95" nut round out the JP70's premium appointments.

Designed for John Petrucci's Progressive Metal Prowess

With high-output pickups, a Floyd Rose-style tremolo and premium components throughout, the JP70 brings Dream Theater guitarist John Petrucci's progressive chops and tone within reach of players at every level. test the JP70's metal mettle for yourself at Guitar Center today.

Great 7 string guitar

I was looking for my first 7 string when i happened to cross paths with this guitar. at first glance I couldn't decide what I thought of it. I'm not a huge fan of this body style. The more I looked at it the more it grew on me, and after I played it I was sold. This was the one. The reviews you read online for this guitar are very misleading. They all said the pickups sounded muddy, but people... its a metal guitar, it makes metal music. They seem plenty clear/crunchy to me and everyone I have let play it. If you don't want that buy something else. Everything on this guitar was built solid. Including the trem, no tuning issues at all here. The locking tuners are awesome. I compared this guitar to every other 7 string I could get my hands on, and this was the one i was most comfortable with. The only thing that I wish was different is the frets are a little rough. They just need a good polish then they will be perfect. As far as quality (price excluded) this guitar beats almost every guitar I've played. So, PICK ONE UP! you will not need your receipt because its not going back.

I really wanna love it, but…

Nearly everything the Petruccinator touches turns to gold, but I honestly can't say I was blown away by this instrument. The good part is that it looks awesome, and feels great to play. The fit and finish and QC of Sterling seems to have improved dramatically over the last 2-3 years since the last time I bought one. The neck carve and radius on these JPs are a perfect pairing for me. However, the hardware still feels cheap and does not hold tune at all. If you even think about touching the trem arm, you're out of tune. If you get the guitar in tune, you're out of tune. I have experience setting up floating trems, and this thing was impossible to work with. After setting it up and stretching the strings, I spent nearly an hour tuning this thing and eventually gave up. You just can't win with it. A lot of people buy these as mod platforms, so I'm certain if I bought the Gotoh 510 bridge, a Graphtech nut, and some good tuners, I'd be in business. It's just too much money for me. The guitar was already expensive enough, and I'd rather get something that's ready to go than spend the next year or more saving up when I need to keep gigging. If you do plan to get one, I would recommend budgeting for the hardware upgrades so you don't have to live with any of the tuning stability issues.

I bought my jp70 a year ago so I've had some time to work with it. I absolutely love this guitar. It's so much fun to play and it feels so comfortable. I haven't had any tuning issues at all. I did swap in Seymour Duncan black winters, but otherwise I wouldn't change a thing.

As soon as I bought it, it was a hassle. Never States in tune, action cant be set tithout a string breaking, and over all just sounds awful. 0/10, would never recommend to anyone ever. Not worth the price tag

Dude it's incredibly disappointing because I cannot put this thing down. So fun to play. Unfortunately it doesn't stay in tune. It's a little cheap feeling for the price. Bridge is a dud. The nut is a dud. The locking tuners feel like they could break any day now and I just bought it.

Guitar center has been helpful so no issues there, however the jp 70 has issues , strings pop out of nuts , nut was sitting sideways , tremolo creeks and pops, went for a replacement and several others in the store were the same, product is not reliable.

Seriously I was looking for replacements because I knew they were not the official Dimarzios John Petrucci uses (not that I was looking for what he uses I actually am partial to a different combination than his usual Liquifyre and Airnorton) but when I plugged it in I was shocked at their clarity and their ability to clean up when rolling back the volume. This is a steal for a seven string like this.

What string gauge does the 7 string use? I recently broke a string and I don't want to mess up the guitar by getting strings that are too heavy or too light
