collapse expand iconDescription

The TASCAM US-16x08 captures 16 mic and line inputs to your computer with clear sound quality and advanced features to manage big sessions. Eight Ultra-HDDA microphone preamps deliver the cleanest and quietest operation in their class while delivering up to 57dB of gain. An additional eight line inputs are provided, two of them switchable to instrument level for direct guitar or bass recording. Eight balanced line outputs are also available, two with a level control on the front panel for monitoring.

Built into the US-16x08 is a DSP Mixer for low-latency digital mixing. Each channel has four-band EQ, compression and a reverb send for polished-sounding monitor mixes. In addition to interface mode, the US-16x08 can be used stand alone as a standalone mic preamp. Mac and Windows drivers are provided, as well as USB Audio Compliance 2.0 drivers for iOS compatibility. MIDI input and output are also available on the rear panel. Whether using the ergonomically-designed angled desktop stand or mounting with the included rack ears, the US-16x08 includes enough I/O for almost any music recording application.

Smart Design

Most audio interfaces don't have EQ & compression available at the tracking stage, and therefore make your 'mobile' recording unit over complex, and quite costly. I own the TASCAM US 1800, and upgraded to the Focusrite 18i20. This TASCAM 16 08 may be a smarter choice, here's why... 1) The TASCAM 16 08 will record all 16 tracks at 88.2khz. The Focusrite will cut the tracks in half when going beyond 44.1khz 2) The TASCAM 16 08, if owned, would allow you to rout everything directly into the recording unit, and eliminate the need to purchase a PreSonus ACP-88 compressor, $300 used price! 3) The last thing to consider is the sound. I have experience with the TASCAM field recorder, and higher quality unit than the TASCAM US 1800. I have no doubt that if TASCAM wanted to, they could give the customer a really nice DA converter with pre-amp. It is my recommendation for all recording musicians to consider this unit before all others. The lack of recording software included, and driver issues may be the main problem, but if you can get this unit to operate... I can't seem to find any reason why this unit wouldn't be a best choice. You should at least purchase this first, and see if you can get it to work with your configuration.

DRIVERS STILL A PROBLEM 10/2015

Bought this unit in 3/2015. It didn't work well due to the drivers but since its TEAC / TASCAM I felt confident a patient wait would be rewarding. Not so. They just can't get the Blue Screen of Death fixed. The machine itself is great when it works before the crash dump bsod. I'm not gonna get into all the workarounds. It's the drivers. Bottom line. Too bad. This unit has everything else especially a great price. If the drivers don't ruin tascams rep then this may become the working mans recording interface and excellent sounding pc audio.

I needed at least 8 inputs so I could record my drums directly into my DAW. I have a Presonus 1818 in my control room & purchased this unit in my live room. 1st time out the box it was amazing. Once you download the software it is intuitive, easy to use, & my drums sound great.

Good quality and easy to set up. Software was a breeze to set up. Looks professional yet not flashy. Maybe could use some lights to be able see knobs better . But over all great sound , Which is the main goal.

  • Not for me, for someone else but he was happy!

I bought this Audio Interface on behalf of our Sound Engineer, so I have no clue. But he was so excited of having the Tascam gear that I dare to qualify my purchase with 5 stars.

I will start by saying, I am very happy I disregarded all of the comments about driver issues. Setup was childs play. The issues I had were with the the owner's manual and its lack of details. Once I figured out all of the possible configurations and settings, it worked flawlessly with my recording software and I was able to record my drum kit with 8 mics. Very happy customer!

Yes you can. You would need the proper iPad cable for it to work however.

Tascam either has the drivers available on their website or they can send you a link to them usually.
