a long search led me to these

There are a lot of monitors in the low end monitor range to look through. Lots of features to weigh. It still boils down to what they sound like. After a lot of research and a lot of time in Guitar Center listening rooms comparing sounds I came to these speakers. They just sounded best to me and fit my requirements and price range. Got them home and set them up, using the balanced connections between my Line 6 interface and the xlr inputs on the Tannoys. I used a cable for both speakers and not the 1/8" cable that comes with the speaker. They sounded great at home also. I did not experience the "hum" that the other reviewer experienced. I didn't hear that "hum" in the GC listening room either. I am very happy with these monitors while listening to music or going over my mixes. Give them a listen. They might be your answer also !

great sound, IF you can handle the rediculous noise floor

sure wish these wouldn't have a VERY audible background buzz to them, because they sound great otherwise. The BG noise is about 10X louder than my Reveal 601's, and yes, I know what I'm doing. It's not my system or power conditioner. TEST them in a quiet space before buying, and compare to other speakers on the shelf at GC.

I really loved the Tannoy Reveal 502. I purchased 2 brand new for GC. The monitor is solid, and has a lot of ways to get sound out and in (unbalanced, balanced, 3.5 inch). They give you a true representation of what you need to hear when you're mixing, monitoring, sound designing, etc. Really wish I could of kept them but there was always this inherent noise/hiss/hum being produced by them. I read online that this is common with this brand and it could be because the amplifier was designed poorly. I even bought a power conditioner to see if that would at least dampen that noise/hiss/hum and to no avail. At first it was annoying, but later I got used to it and didn't mind it even though it was irritating. Ultimately, I ended up returning them and grabbing a pair of Yamaha HS5's. If you're doing music production, sound engineering, media creation, etc., then these are really good monitors so thats why I gave them 4 stars. But that noise/hiss/hum could make these great sounding monitors easily a 2 star purchase. Hope this review helps.
