In a nutshell the 802's have a linear response but with extended bass frequency. They work great for metal where palm muting chugs (even with standard tuning) can get into these lows where smaller monitors drop off too soon leaving you to mix in the dark with frustrating results. The tight bass response also draws a clear cut line where guitar should stop and bass begins allowing you to get rid of guitar frequencies that muddy your mix, again something smaller monitors just can't do as well if at all. With my acoustics the high boost works perfectly. These monitors are like a microscope that allow me to adjust nuances that translate very well to the car stereo, headphones, etc., that my previous Presonus monitors failed to do despite the EQ function.

I?m a touring musician in the band Krooked Treez, and multi-genre-producer, so sound quality is always most important to me on all levels. I play, produce, and mix rock, hip-hop, reggae, dub step, electro, pop, and everything in-between. It?s important for me to get an accurate mix of a song fairly quickly. The Tannoy Reveal 802 studio monitors have really impressed me and rise above all other competing monitors in its? class. In any genre, the monitors produce a balanced, bright, colorful sound, while still pounding with powerful bass, but not getting muddy in the lower frequencies. The front-ported enclosure allows the sound to vent and travel properly, and also allows you to set the monitors back against the wall without any loss of sound quality. Sitting in the carefully designed sweet spot gives me the true character of the music I?m hearing. These definitely have changed the way I work with music! A great feature that the Reveal 802?s have is the 1/8? audio cable that plugs directly into the back of one of the monitors, and they?re linked together by another audio cable. I can conveniently plug in my iPhone, iPad, or Macbook Pro for a quick reference of a song to compare my mix to, or just bang some music while I?m working on something else. I put on my favorite playlist and they rock my studio! The Reveal 802's have a very sleek, modern look/design, with very durable materials making them feel very solid, without being too heavy. I also like the cool blue lights that set the mood behind the monitors! They come equipped with a soft foam pad on the bottom to buffer the space between the monitor and the surface they sit on. This makes for a very clean output, avoiding vibrations or buzzing from underneath. All monitors should have this feature! These monitors have multiple uses in my studio. I run them from protools/reason, or I can plug in my iPad with the 1/8? cable and write a song with garage band or make a beat with the iMPC app, just to name a few. I even plug my Roland Fantom G6 workstation directly into the monitors when I want to work out some sounds, or even produce using the Fantom?s DAW. Regardless of what I plug into the Reveal 802?s, I get rich, high quality sound! Musicians and producers rejoice, and trust Tannoy! I do!

  • Excellent value in a mid-priced monitor

Imaging is good. Bottom is tight. Didn't think an 8" woofer would have this much bass. Bass is not exaggerated though. Seems well balanced. Highs are silky and not harsh. Happy with the purchase.
