Taylor's 300 Series has introduced countless players to the pleasures of the all-solid-wood acoustic experience; it's the entry point to Taylor's USA-made instrument line. Players who step up to a 300 Series instrument, like this 2019 324ce V-Class Grand Auditorium acoustic-electric, will be rewarded with a guitar-for-a-lifetime that will only sound better with age. It doesn't take but a few strums to learn how the mix of tone woods, construction and appointments combine to make Taylor's famous playability, intonation and tone. The 300 Series has everything you need and nothing you don't need in a fantastic sounding and playing instrument. The 2019 324ce V-Class Grand Auditorium acoustic-electric guitar ships in a hardshelld shell case made by Taylor for optimal fit and protection.

Body Shape
A Taylor original, the Grand Auditorium helped establish the Taylor acoustic sound. The popular body style makes for a versatile guitar that yields ample volume in response to light fingerpicking, and reacts to medium strumming and flatpicking with a clear, balanced sound across the tonal spectrum. If you want a great all-purpose guitar, the GA is an excellent choice.

Tonewood Pairing
A guitar's top is the primary filter and distributor of vibrating string energy through the guitar, which means it has a huge impact on its sound. Tropical mahogany is known for a meaty midrange featuring a strong fundamental without adding a lot of ringing overtones. It responds well to players with a strong attack who like dry, earthy, lo-fi sounds. It has a natural compression that smooths out strumming and picking technique. Mahogany's clear and direct tonal character makes it a great option for playing and standing out among other instruments. Tonally, blackwood behaves somewhere in the middle of rosewood and mahogany, with a little extra shimmer and chime that shows its family resemblance to koa. Pairing blackwood with the mahogany top not only gives you that roll-in effect associated with a mahogany top - really smooth attack and balance - but extra complexity as the note decays. It's a great combination.

Electronics
Taylor's ES2 is a revolutionary pickup design that delivers the latest in Taylor’s ongoing innovation in acoustic guitar amplification. The heart of the Expression System 2 is Taylor’s patented behind-the-saddle pickup, which features three uniquely positioned and individually calibrated pickup sensors. Because the pickup doesn't sit under the saddle, the bottom of the saddle comes in full contact with the bridge, allowing all the nuance of the guitar's tone to come through clearly whether playing acousticly or plugged-in. The location of the sensors enables a more dynamic range of acoustic sound to be captured than ever before while playing plugged-in. Together with Taylor’s custom-designed “professional audio”-grade preamp, this system produces exceptional amplified tone and responsiveness. On stage through a PA, plugged into your favorite acoustic amplifier, or direct into recording software, the Expression System 2 faithfully conveys the voice of your Taylor guitar. The Taylor Expression System 2 operates through a proprietary 9-volt battery compartment and easy-to-use volume, and active bass and treble controls.

Other Features
Taylor's V-Class bracing is a fundamental innovation in acoustic guitar design. It marks an important evolution beyond traditional X-bracing, introducing an entirely new platform for acoustic performance. It is essentially a "sonic engine" that optimizes the response of an acoustic guitar in three key ways: by boosting volume, sustain, and by largely resolving the intonation (in-tune-ness) issues that have long plagued acoustic guitars. V-Class bracing creates purer, more orderly notes that don't cancel each other out or sound "off". They have clearer, more consistent response, and the whole fretboard is brought into greater sonic alignment for a more musical playing/listening experience. Guitars with V-Class bracing are easier to tune; the pitch sounds purer and more solid, and electronic tuners can more easily locate notes for quick, precise tuning. Other benefits: harmonics ring more uniformly down the neck, notes are louder with more projection and sustain, and notes are more consistent, i.e., upper register notes don't get choked out or swallowed. Fewer "sour" sonic qualities exist with chords; a more agreeable relationship is created between notes as they ripen, bloom and decay.

Quality Taylor that does everything it needs to.

This guitar is most definitely a Taylor. It's beautiful, sturdy as all get-out, well constructed, and has the bright and powerful tone that had made Taylor the industry giant that they are. Every guitar brand has a "mid-grade professional acoustic" in this price range, and I'd put this guitar in the top 10-15% of those guitars. It sounds great plugged in and it will absolutely accomplish any recording or live performance needs a guitarist has. That being said, it's not the most exciting guitar to play. Of the five acoustics hanging in my music room right now (please excuse the "sick brag" here -- the others being a Gibson L-00, Martin 000-17E, Breedlove Oregon Myrtlewood Concertina, and Breedlove Premier Adirondack/Rosewood Concert) this is the guitar that I pick up to play the least often. It is heavy and the neck is pretty bulky for a Taylor. I have found that I play my kid's Big Baby Taylor much more often than this one. That guitar feels more soulful than the 324ce. Maybe this one is just too pristine and "clean" and doesn't feel as enticing to grab and rock out with? Maybe it's the Grand Auditorium size that makes it less fun to play? I don't know for sure, but it's mostly a decorative piece at this point. My post-rant disclaimer: This guitar is great and sounds great, and my own personal disinterest in it shouldn't be anyone's guide on whether or not to purchase it. If you want a large, bulky guitar to produce loud, clear sound then this might be the guitar for you. If you want something that is fun to play, there are other Taylor models (many of them cheaper) that outperform in that area. There are also lots of other brands who are doing more interesting things right now, and I'd personally recommend checking other options out before throwing down the cash for this one.

Very nice guitar

This is a very nice guitar and I tried REALLY hard to like it better than the Martin Special Grand Performance Cutaway Performing Artist Style Ovankgol Edge Sunburst. Both guitars are solid wood, the same size and made in the USA. I played both side by side for a long time. First of all compared to the Martin the Taylor had a really bright sound compared to the Martin's soft sound with bright middles. The playability is about the same as they both have 1.75 necks. I also like the wood craftsmanship better in the Martin. The Taylor is a nice guitar but not my cup of tea but I can't fault anyone who likes its brighter tones.

I wish I could amend my review of this guitar form two years ago because I actually was trying out the 214ce not the 324ce. I did not like the tone of the 224ce but the 324ce is amazing. It has a nice bottom tone and bright mid tones. It really is a perfect blend of a Martin and Taylor. I learned to setup guitars myself and I adjusted the neck relief, action and nut slot height of the strings. I checked the neck angle which is spot on. The intonation is ever so slightly off but not enough for me to pursue. I highly recommend this guitar from playing solo to jamming to performing.

The sound is awesome. Tone rivals KOA. Playability is a tad better than my 814 (personal fit? Setup??). My only con is the finish needs to allow a little more wood grain to show through. Mine is really dark on the top.

  • Obviously, I would not buy this item over and over again.

I've had my 324CE for about a month. The mahogany top with the Tasmanian sides and back give it the perfect amount of lows, mids and highs along with excellent dynamic range. It also plays extremely easy. Feels like my hands and fingers glide easily back and forth on the neck! Get it!

This was not the guitar I went in to buy. I recently played a friend's 7 series Taylor and had my heart set on one. I went to the Marietta, Georgia store and was working with the salesman, trying out various Taylor guitars (and even a Martin) when he brought the 324ce out. I have to admit, I wasn't thrilled with the look of the guitar ( I really like a more traditional look with a light colored top best) but from the first strum, I was hooked. My wife was watching me and she told me later than when saw the the expression on my face she knew this was the one I was going to buy. This guitar is simply a beautiful instrument. I'm not talking about the looks, thought the build quality is superb. What I mean is the tone is wonderful. It's not as bright (brassy) as the other Taylors, but more warm and rich in the low end and mid tones, and has a very solid 'punch' when you need it. The sound is really very unique. Playability is incredible. Buttery smooth, low action, and just a great over all feel. Ok, so I've had this guitar for three days now, and I've only played it for maybe 6 hours total, but I think this is the best overall acoustic guitar I've ever owned and maybe ever played. Even better, it cost about $1000 less than what I had been considering, so win win for me!
