The Honey Creek A-Style Mandolin

The Loar

collapse expand iconDescription

The Loar LM-110 Hand-Carved A-Style mandolin brings boutique-level quality and sound direct to your hands. Handcrafted by The Loar, this gorgeous mandolin is built with a solid spruce top and maple back and sides for articulate, balanced tone. The nitrocellulose lacquer finish and vintage-inspired hardware and appointments evoke the golden era of mandolin making.

Solid Spruce Top Delivers Rich, Resonant Sound

At the heart of the LM-110's stunning tone is its solid spruce top. Spruce is a lightweight, responsive wood that produces a broad tonal range, clear highs, and a ringing, resonant quality. The spruce top, combined with maple back and sides, creates an articulate voice with a woody midrange and sparkling treble.

A-Style Body Offers Comfort and Playability

The Loar LM-110 features a classic A-style body shape with elegant f-holes, providing lightweight comfort and easy playability. The A-style body produces a balanced, focused tone that cuts through in an ensemble while remaining pleasing to the ear on its own. The slim neck profile and radiused fretboard also enhance playability for mandolinists of all skill levels.

Vintage-Inspired Appointments Capture Golden Era Style

From its aged-looking satin finish to its vintage-style tuners and pickguard, the LM-110 is designed to evoke mandolins from the early 20th century. The satin finish gives the mandolin a warm appearance while allowing the tonewoods to resonate freely. The tuners, pickguard, and other hardware are also styled to capture a vintage aesthetic.

Additional high-quality features at an affordable price

Beyond its solid-wood construction and vintage style, the Loar LM-110 includes features usually found on higher-end models, like an adjustable truss rod, radiused fretboard, compensated bridge for accurate intonation, and dual-action truss rod.

It looks good. It smells good. It feels good.

My local Guitar Center had just sold their last 310f a few days prior to me walking in and I did not feel like waiting a week for the Mando to get delivered. I grabbed this beauty off the wall and took it home. Overall for the price I recommend this to anyone just starting mandolin. It is a quality instrument that was very close to being set up to be played out of the store.

Mandolin

I'm play guitar and want to learn mandolin. Store only had two models to chose from. Price was right, not usually my leading consideration. Quality is fine for beginners. Overall construction has issues. Bridge not straight and tilted forward. Frets extended beyond neck width. Felt like saw blades. Tuning difficult and inconsistent up the neck.

I checked reviews and tried out a couple at GC. I liked the Loar. A nice tone and feel. The V shaped neck has a good feel.

My first mandolin but not my first stringed instrument. It's pretty solid for a relatively low price, but the screws in the truss rod cover are stripped on the one I bought in-store. I didn't notice until I had played a bit and wanted to make an adjustment but they're screwed in so tight and the heads are stripped badly enough that I'm not sure they're removable without drilling into the screwheads. If I can't get them out without trying any potentially damaging methods, I'm taking this back for exchange. That's really my only complaint though. Nice enough tone, feels good to play, holds its tuning well.

  • I've waited a long time for this mandolin, it was worth it.

Got this as an upgrade for my daughter. She loves it. Just waiting on the strap. It will improve her playing and appreciation of the mandolin.
