I like to put a new set on my fretless when I record. They sound very very good.

I am an upright bass player and I love the tone and feel of the strings on the upright. When I got my precision bass I knew it would be different. The original round wound strings on the p-bass was just not to my liking, not for the music that I play. I did my research and came across these string and it was promising. I put on this set of strings on my p-bass, set the neck relief, adjusted the string height and intonation. Now for the real test. The strings took to tuning easily and kept in tune. The string noise I had with the round wounds was gone. The tone was beautiful and the string tension was good, not too stiff, not too loose. The warmth of these strings was more like that of my upright, I found what I was looking for. These strings are a little more expensive than ordinary strings but what you get is a superior product that should last a while. Compared to my upright strings which can cost in excess of $275 a set this is a deal. I do not plan on changing these strings anytime in the near future and I expect them to only get better with time.

I've played these on a Rickenbacker and my Warwick basses. These strings play incredibly smooth, like butter. Don't let the name flatwounds fool you, the stigma that flatwounds are dull and lifeless is over. Highs are crisp, mids come thru great and are punchy clear and rounded, lows are tight and focused without sounding muddy. Amazing frequency separation. You could use these for almost all styles too. Just the best!!
Best Flatwounds For A Rickenbacker

These are the best low tension Flatwounds in the market today. I was a little scared away over the price but I made a great decision on buying them. They give you that nice low end sound once they break in. I put them on my Rickenbacker 4003 and they instantly gave that Macca tone I was looking for. I plan on putting these on my other basses.

These TI flats are on a fretless Fender P-bass (Tony Franklin). I know they cost more, but they are easily worth it. I get a sound closer to my EUB -- really focused tone, and a deep growl with great detail. In the studio....great focused sound in the mix. Love these TIs. I also use TI rounds on my ABG --- great sound there as well. I think the higher cost evens out because they last a long time.
