Killer Pedal!
The Dominator is built like a tank but is super fast and light. I wanted two things in a pedal: direct drive linkage, and longboard configuration. So that basically gave me the option of Axis or Trick. The compression spring on the Trick is just a bonus. The fact that it only comes as a longboard is great as well, as it gives you much more leverage and the ability to manipulate the pedal differently from a shortboard using part of, or the entire foot. I have the double pedal version and it's very smooth and balanced. The beater stroke, footboard height and spring tension adjustments are so easy I wondered why no one else's thought of doing it this way. It's the only pedal that I'm aware of that you can tweak all the settings without getting off your throne. Some pedals have too many adjustments for me but this is just enough to really tailor the feel to anyone's style. I was curious how the compression spring would compare to a traditional extension spring and it's much more precise and has a broader tension spectrum than regular springs. No pedal allows you to vary the spring tension as greatly or as quickly and easily as the Dominator. I've had Axis, DW, Tama, etc. pedals and double pedals and this is by far my favorite. Because of the aluminum construction, direct drive linkage, and longboard configuration this most closely compares to the Axis. In my experience with Axis they seem to fall apart after a while and are tough to maintain. The Dominator is basically similar to the Axis in feel and speed but with the added bonus of tank-like construction and a genius spring design. It also doesn't hurt that it's one of the coolest looking pedals I've ever seen with it's black brushed aluminum parts and stainless steel beaters. The only things to note are that the beaters will kill your bass head if you don't play with some kind of patch, and that the rails that extend to the pedal hinge could be a minor annoyance if you play barefoot. I've played barefoot a couple times on it and it's noticeable but didn't bother me at all. Overall this is a truly innovative piece of gear and is of the highest quality. For all the death metal speed demons out there: If you're looking for some Axis pedals I highly recommend trying these out first.

The slave pedal does not stay in place slides all over floor. Pedals feel great but there is nothing stopping the left pedal from sliding. Ive had iron cobras and my last set was pearl demon drives and never had issues. Def need to address issue not sticking anything on the bottom of these pedals either. For what there charging this should not even be an issue. Returning today

Desighned - manufactured by the people who make Race Cars, These pedals give me ezer doubles instantly, compared to run of the mil 130 pedals. they are so smooth in comparison it feels like the pedal isnt even there and the notes just come out by magic, lol. The smooth feeling makes playing more enjoyable. bliss mode, like a shecter toxic venom is for guitar. after tones of internet research I hypothesize that the best pedals would be The Trick, Drumnetics, Tama Dyna-Sync, or ACD. I would start with the Trick and shoot it out against those if you want to find out.

This pedal is incredible. Would have been perfect. However it is too wide for Roland's new acoustic bass drum head.

Hands down the most powerful and reliable pedal set

Trick makes the most powerful and reliable pedals, hands down. The Dominator is easily the best double pedal on the market for the price. They ARE expensive, true. So why pay the price for these? 1. Zero maintenance, zero worry. I have had these pedals for 4 years now and they haven't needed to be touched. Just set them up proper so nothing gets bumped unhealthily and they are immortal. They work every bit as well as the day I got them. 2. The internal spring technology, unique to Trick's pedals, is genius. Not only does it create unparalleled smoothness in playing, it keeps the inner working mechanisms of the pedal shielded 24/7 so that the parts never degrade and absolutely nothing loosens up. No more buying new sets of pedals every 3 years. 3. Incredibly easy to adjust. The tick marks by the base of the beaters allow you to get each beater 100% even with the other. Spring tension is adjusted with a simple and elegant steel knob. The pedal can be taken off the drive shaft and converted into 2 separate pedals basically instantly. 4. A truly even feel. As I've already said, these pedals are extremely smooth and you can adjust them to be completely even with each other. This is great for a metal drummer like me who needs to maintain nice even double bass strokes. The drive shaft has the tiniest bit of latency, but good luck finding one with less latency. 5. Trick has fantastic customer service. They are reputed for going above and beyond to fix problems. One last thing I should note: Getting used to these isn't easy. I could not test them before buying. They are so smooth it actually makes faster playing easier and slower playing more difficult, IMO. Now that I'm used to them I expend very little energy when playing fast double bass or crazy patterns with one foot. It feels like walking on nothing almost. TL;DR These pedals are made with uncompromising quality. I give these a glowing recommendation because they incredibly fast, accurate and basically immortal.
Killer Pedal! - Update - 9 Years Later

I posted a review under the title "Killer Pedal!" 9 years ago. Thought I'd give an update. I had the first generation Trick Dominator double pedal from 2009-2017. In those 8 years and trips around the world with them and countless shows I never had one single problem. A year ago I sold them to try and go back to Axis for a lighter feel, which I'd played prior to Trick. But my first Axis always had issues with things falling apart on them which led me to Trick the first time. History repeats. Using the Axis for less than a year, things were already breaking on them, notably the heel block pin. I'm happy to say I decided to go back to Trick and bought the current generation Dominators and am never looking back. They're still the sturdiest, smoothest, fastest pedal I've ever played, not to mentioned the most ingeniously engineered and constructed pedals. Every aspect of the pedal, from the direct drive, to the independent adjustments and compression spring to spring-loaded hoop clamp let you tweak every single thing on the pedal without leaving your throne. The point of this update though is to mention that while the first gen Dominator was amazing it had 2 DESIGN flaws. The first was that the footboard connected directly to the side rails at the heel, which means if you play heel down which I do, your heel would hit the rails. The second was that the slave drive shaft had some play in the joints. I'm happy to say both these issues are GONE on the new Dominators. They raised the heel block and the new drive shaft has zero lag. They even came up with one more improvement, by adding a center ring to accommodate the SB1 laser triggers which I'll also be using. In short, the Trick is now flawless. Get hyped.
