Vater

collapse expand iconDescription

The Vater Heavy Splashstick is a thicker version of the popular Splashstick for extra weight and durability for heavier hitting drummers.
The drumsticks' birch dowels provide warm acoustic tonality yet still produce a solid "crack" around the drum kit. The extended rubber grip on the Vater Splashstick leaves 4" of the dowel exposed and gives a solid stick-like feel with excellent durability in the rim-shot area.

Before I purchased the Vater Heavy Splashsticks, I purchased the Hot Rods. They are made of 19 very thin rods. They produced a very nice sound (perfect sound between brushes and light wood tipped sticks), but do not last at all. Each rod quickly snaps off. It doesn't take long before you have an unbalanced pair or need new ones altogether. So I thought I'd go with something heavier and these are perfect. They are much thicker and durable, while thin enough to sound softer than a regular drumstick. Make no mistake, because they are very heavy duty, they are much louder than the hot rods and closer to an actual drumstick sound. But they're worth it because they last and are very versatile. Besides this small drawback, the thickness of the sticks take getting used to, as they are probably twice as thick as a 5B. This is all part of the concept though. If you're a heavy player, but need bit more mellow of a stick, I definitely advise getting a pair. It's worth the money because they'll last a heck of a lot longer than most other ones on the market. Rock and roll.
