  • Great for lowering drum volume but not ideal

I play drums in a band that has a residency inside a fairly loud venue. My thinking was that these would lower the volume of my acoustic drums which they infact did do. Unfortunately the middle ring that gives the user more versatile action kept flying off the whips. I have used these before in churchs that have similar issues with sound. The best hack is to use a small piece of electric tape to hold the ring in place.

  • They're fine, but I'll stick with Hot Rods

My band occasionally plays low-volume gigs where volume is important, so I usually use Promark Hot Rods to avoid blowing everyone away, but my Hot Rods have been falling apart (I've been on the same pair for years) and I decided to take a chance on these since Vater is my go-to for sticks and I thought the plastic would last better over time. I've only used them once so far, but I'm underwhelmed. I liked the idea of being able to slide the top ring back and forth to control the attack and volume, but both rings flew off the whips after a few minutes of playing, so they're stuck open now unless I decide to tape them, which I may do. Also the thick rubber handle seemed like a solid idea, but after the gig the center rods seem to have slipped out a bit so it's loose now. So they're fine, they did the job for that gig, but when these wear out I won't be buying another pair, I'll stick with Hot Rods.

Needed a stick that had less volume than traditional wood, but that was more durable than the standard wooden specialty sticks. These Whip's fit that bill... They have decent feel and create a volume in between a regular wooden stick and brushes. The band seem to like them because now they can hear their mistakes more clearly... lol

  • It's good!
