Wampler

collapse expand iconDescription

The pedal that inspired this circuit has been around for a long time in various forms but most versions of it have too much of a “Hi Fi” sound about them, they fail to get the right mix of clarity and bass that is needed to make this overdrive sing. Brian has added further gain capabilities to this circuit, and added a bass control that controls all the harmonics from smooth and creamy to tight and crunchy.

The sound this circuit delivers is a firm favorite in Nashville and Brian Wampler’s take is everything you would expect it to be–high quality components, a beautiful enclosure, and a glorious tone. If you set the gain low and the bass control up high, you get a wonderful clean boost sound that can rival any Klone circuit, but when you spin the bass down and the gain all the way up, you suddenly find yourself with an awesome transparent overdrive / medium distortion sound with all the crunch you need.

The Color control is more than just a standard tone control and it’s pretty unique to this circuit. Dialling it right or left will either boost or cut the high and low end a little, but the midrange frequencies are left well alone. Combine this with the Bass control and you have a very versatile tone shaping palette with Wampler’s legendary ease of use. Brian has also added a push switch on the side which will control the amount of compression and alter the clipping structure in the circuit for some extra punch.

This pedal can add some serious muscle to your country, some extra grit to your blues, and some soaring boosts to rock–it’s such a flexible drive we know you are going to love stacking it with your favorite pedals as much as playing it straight through a clean amp.

Shelved my other drives after getting this

I have multiple versions and original iterations of all the "IT" pedals to have after being caught up in this pedal Renaissance and YouTube demo-verse. This pedal has totally blown me away and literally the only thing I'd change about this is the size. I have full grown human feet and these mini pedals are kinda ridiculous. If you want more pedals on a board, get a bigger board for crying out loud. Anyways. I really haven't had to adjust the knobs much because it sounds so good at the settings I've had it at (out of the box for the most part) Played through a Marshall, Supro and a Fender. This pedal still retains amp qualities but adds the goods. For the price you can't beat it. Take it from a guy with a full blown drive pedal addiction that this one has satiated me for the time being. Happy hunting.

Another Overdrive Pedal. Sounds good.

It's a nice OD pedal. Nothing really earthshaking about it - despite the popularity of this circuit in Nashville. I do prefer it over a Tube Screamer (outside of tightening an overdriven Marshall). I don't love the extra small size of it, because the knobs are a bit too close to the footswitch for anyone who's on-stage foot skills aren't perfect.

I really like the warm and crunchy tone I get out of this pedal. I'm not performing live much at this time so I basically got it for a different tone color in the studio and it works great for that. It's not too hot or too distorted. It could be a little brighter, but it works well with my equipment.

  • Outstanding low noise "transparent" Overdrive

Outstanding sound with low noise! This does not have the mid push and reduced bass response of a Tubescreamer type, which can be desirable in some situations; e.g., single coil pickups into a Blackface style amp. This pedal is ideal for adding "more" to your sound; e.g., additional saturation, sustain, and harmonics without significantly altering the EQ curve (unless younso desire). Seperate Bass and Treble controls allow for more precise tone sculpting than your typical overdrive. Highly recommended! I also own the Wampler Ratsbane and Mini Ego Comp and I am VERY impressed by all 3 of these Wampler pedals. #sweepstakes

The Belle is a transparent overdrive that gives you a different flavor than a tube screamer. I prefer it in most situations. Belle works well as a clean boost and can also get into the low to medium overdrive territory with no problem. It's a versatile pedal that sounds great. Sometimes I wish it was full sized but overall I'm very happy with it.

  • The pedal I've been looking for.

Love the tone I get from this. I tried Wampler's Hot Wired first and loved the B side but the A side was not quite there. This one is! Hey Brian, combine this one with the B side of the Hot Wired and you got it! Only negative is the switch on the side. Love what it does but inconvenient location. Better if it could utilize one of the other controls as a push/push switch to activate it.

  • I have the Belle or a Timmy with a MIB or Tumnus

I'm able to get the Belle at Higher Mid frequencies than most of the other drives I have! So I can dial in less chunk and still have enough gain for Fullness, My AT@and Tumnus are Great but Often are just too Heavy a Sound for Chords and the Belle's subtle upper Mids are Clearer and that way I seem to have more range in my drive sounds!
