I own the old 900 series stands and can tell you there is a difference. The new stands are thinner and different then the 900 series I know. If you look at the pearl stands they have not changed. Yamaha seems to be cutting down their drum business. All of the custom snare drums have been discontinued and the new Yamaha Recording custom seems to be cheaper made from China.

I bought this cymbal stand for my 22" ride, which is kind of heavy. This cymbal stand is solid and doesn't shake much. The heavy base will prevent the stand from tipping over. The boom is about 4" longer than the boom on the 755 series stand.
