The APX series has always placed emphasis on playability, stylish thin body profile and cutting edge electronics. The Yamaha APX700II-12 Thinline 12-String Cutaway Acoustic-Electric Guitar (12-string model) offers upgraded cosmetics, solid Sitka spruce top, revamped A.R.T. preamp and the same exceptional playability.

This APX shines on stage. With its ultra-comfortable thin-line body and slim, fast neck the transition from electric guitar could not be easier. All-new color variations and updated inlays make sure APX looks as good as it sounds.

Case sold separately.

APX Soundhole: Oval
The instantly recognizable APX soundhole thickens lower-mid response and gives a more strident, open low end.

APX Body Depth:
80-90mm (3 1/8" - 3 9/16")
APX's thin-line body combines incredible comfort, easy top-fret access and a sound perfectly suited to on-stage use with bright, clear mids, balanced highs and controlled lows. Specially designed non-scalloped X-type bracing allows the guitar's top to sing and maximizes the resonance of the unique body shape for a full, natural tone. With dynamics, sensitivity and clarity built into the design from day one, APX is a guitar not to be underestimated.

A.R.T. (Acoustic Resonance Transducer) technology
Yamaha electric acoustic guitars have consistently used piezo pickups to reproduce the pure sounds of the acoustic guitar. But piezo pickups tended to overreact to changes in attack, which in turn caused distortion. To achieve ideal playability, we had to improve the way that these dynamics were controlled.

To provide a solution to this issue, the new pickup was designed with a multilayer structure consisting of six layers of different materials. This dampens excessive vibration from the soundboard while picking up small resonances to achieve ideal sensitivity and outstanding dynamic balance. Also, because the pickup is fitted directly beneath the soundboard, it functions as a transducer attached to the body.

System 64
System 64 is an original preamp system newly designed and developed by Yamaha's guitar development team. The 1-way system incorporates two contact pickups mounted inside of the body underneath the saddle. Best matching between guitar and pickup was obtained through numerous trials using a number of voice variations in order to produce the most authentic acoustic tone possible. The system is powered by easy to obtain AA-size batteries that provide a stable power supply for improved sound quality. The system also includes a high-precision tuner.

Overall this is a great guitar, it has a great rich tone but it's not loud because it is a thin line series. The only problem that I have is that the guitar was scratched (not too much but it is new), and it has a few dents here and there which I didn't notice at first but as I started to play it when the light hit you could see it had some dents. overall I would recommend the guitar, hopefully I was the only one who had this problem.

Happy with my purchase. Very comfortable to play, easy to use electronics. The black finish on the guitar is flawless. Overall great 12 string guitar for the price range can't complain. I would definitely recommend this guitar to a friend. Hard to find a guitar center with one in stock so I had to order. It would be smart for guitar center to have this model in stock I really think it would help product sales so customers can see and feel this 12 string.

I bought this Yamaha 12-string online a few months ago. I have been a Yamaha fan for 40 years - my 1975 Yamaha FG-300 is still the workhorse of my collection. My previous 12-string is a 1992 Ovation Custom Balladeer, with the big bowl. Unfortunately, I have developed a big belly bowl of my own, and the two competing bowls makes playing difficult, at best. So I was looking for a conventional guitar body for a 12-string, and my own experiences with Yamaha and the reviews online gave me the confidence to go with the APX 700II-12. On the upside, the electronics are great and the onboard tuner is a fabulous luxury, especially with a 12-string. This guitar is quite thin, much thinner than I expected. That makes handling and playability so much easier. What is sacrificed, however, is acoustic tone and volume; it simply doesn't compare with my old Ovation. I also recently purchased a Yamaha A1M 6-string (I reviewed it as well) and its tone isn't in the same ballpark as my old FG-300, either. Although, if you plan on pluggin in, much of the disparity in tone disappears due to the miracle of modern electronics. So, for the price, the Yamaha is a nice guitar, feels solid, and I can attest to the rugged longevity of the brand. There was a time when Yamahas competed tone-wise with Martins and Gibsons that cost two to three times as much. It appears that those days may be over, unless of course the quality of the other brands have diminished as well.

The Gator GC-DREAD-12 Deluxe Dreadnought 6/12-String Guitar Case would be a good choice.
