In spite of the description, the mic is electret. It comes with a little in line battery in case your equipment doesn't provide bias. When I got mine I had been using Sony high quality Stereo headphones to listen to music. Substituting CM500s, I can tell you these are NOT quality hifi phones. For voice they are fine, but they are not in the same league with the Sony phones.

I use these for broadcasting sporting events. They were recommended by the store as being adequate (as I wanted price over performance). They certainly work well. I pack them up and cart them around and they seem to hold up well. When using the 1/4" adapter to plug in to my mixer, I need to use the bias voltage supply box (included) to power the electrolet mic, as this unit seems to have been made for connection to PC soundcard. I recommend this unit especially if you are on a budget.

I use these headphones for listening to music or gaming on my computer. They have great sound quality and comfort. Each side has padding that is comfortable and goes around the ear, it doesn't rest on it. A big plus for long hours of listening enjoyment. The only thing I would change about them would be the addition of a volume control for the speakers and possibly the microphone as well.

For the price these headphones, they were an excellent buy!!! They were basically purchased for our DJ services to be used when one person is out there working alone. Can't beat the hands free feature for the microphone. This unit is very sensitive so you must be away from your speakers or else you will get feedback off the mic.

These are a great headset and headphones the mic is very accurate and non noisy. The headphones themselves have an impdence of 120 so you really need a headphone amp to really get the most out of these. Once driven with the correct amp they are unbelievable and give the Bose Tri-ports a run for their money.
