Yamaha CP88 Sound Demo

Description
The Yamaha CP88 stage piano merges over a century of piano craftsmanship with 45 years of synthesizer innovation to deliver an instrument built for discerning pianists. Featuring triple-sensor natural wood keys with synthetic ebony and ivory textures, it offers the weight and response of an acoustic grand piano with superior tactile grip for long playing sessions. Its meticulously sampled sound library includes world-class acoustic and electric pianos, highlighted by Yamaha's flagship CFX concert grand. The CP88 also features an intuitive one-to-one interface, eliminating menu diving for seamless control. Designed for both live and studio use, this stage piano combines premium tone, touch and functionality into a sleek and portable design.
Premium Acoustic Piano Voices With Unmatched Detail
The Yamaha CP88 features three iconic concert grand piano voices: the Yamaha CFX, Yamaha S700 and Bösendorfer Imperial 290. These meticulously sampled instruments capture the full dynamic expression and tonal nuances of their acoustic counterparts. The CFX offers sparkling highs and powerful bass with incredible projection, while the Bösendorfer Imperial delivers its signature Viennese warmth and extended bass resonance. The S700 adds cutting precision and delicacy, making it ideal for both dense arrangements and intimate settings. Together, these voices provide an authentic acoustic experience, tailored to meet the demands of professional pianists.
Electric Pianos That Deliver Vintage Character
This Yamaha stage piano excels in delivering vintage electric piano tones that are both expressive and versatile. The CP80 electric grand voice provides a bold, punchy sound that cuts through mixes, while three tine electric piano variations—76 Rd, 75 Rd and 73 Rd—offer distinct tonal palettes. The 76 Rd delivers wide dynamic range and pristine clarity, the 75 Rd brings a gritty, funky edge, and the 73 Rd offers warm, vintage charm. These thoughtfully curated voices ensure players have the tools to achieve iconic electric keyboard sounds with depth and realism.
Intuitive Interface for Seamless Control
The Yamaha CP88 features a one-to-one interface that prioritizes immediacy and ease of use. Dedicated knobs and sliders for volume, EQ and sound shaping eliminate the need for menu navigation, allowing players to focus on their performance. Split and Layer modes add versatility by enabling multiple voices to be played simultaneously, while the onboard effects provide instant sound customization. This streamlined design ensures musicians can quickly adapt their settings, making the instrument ideal for live applications and studio sessions alike.
A Durable Stage Piano
Engineered for gigging musicians, the CP88 combines premium materials with a road-ready design. Its robust construction ensures long-term reliability, while its lightweight frame makes transport easy. The natural wood keys are designed to withstand extensive use, and the synthetic keytops resist wear while maintaining their premium feel. Whether it's the demands of touring or the rigors of frequent practice, this stage piano is built to deliver consistent performance without compromising on quality or playability.
Perfect for Pianists Seeking Professional-Grade Features
The Yamaha CP88 stage piano is crafted for pianists who demand authentic touch, premium sound and professional-level functionality. I found true love
I'm absolutely in love with this keyboard. I can't stop playing it. It's the FEEL of the thing. It just wants to pull music out of me. The real test of a musical instrument is not whether it has this or that "feature," or how its technical specifications compare with others - it's whether it inspires you to make music with it. You can't find that out by reading reviews on the internet. You just have to sit down with it and see how you react to each other. When I started seriously looking for my next keyboard, I was sure I would end up with the Roland RD-2000. It seemed to have everything I could ask for, plus it looks great! So I tried several of them in different stores over a period of weeks. It is indeed an awesome instrument, and I can see many reasons for its popularity. But somehow, I just didn't fall in love. I won't go into detail on that, because the details don't matter. It was like going out with the prettiest girl in school, only to find out you have nothing in common. The CP88 wasn't love at first sight. My first impression was the control panel looked kind of busy and cluttered, and kind of limited at the same time. The small sound library was a concern. I didn't want to give up "modern" functionality for "retro" styling. But I finally decided to really sit down and PLAY the thing. After a few minutes, I knew it was the one for me. I've been playing it pretty much nonstop since I bought it, and rather than exhausting the possibilities, I'm actually seeing more than I did at first. There's a lot of complex functionality "under the hood" that hasn't gotten much attention. For example, you can easily map almost all the knobs and switches to your VST/AU synths to control them remotely, layer them onto the keyboard, and mix them into the audio signal from the CP88, all through a single USB cable. But the main thing is this is a PLAYER'S instrument. It will bring out the best in you.

All Hype - Big let down
BIG LET DOWN. Great action of course decent pianos and good interface, much improved U.I. over the CP4 but the CP4 was a better overall stage piano for sounds and sound quality. I was ready to trade my CP4 in for the CP88 but quickly saw that would be a huge mistake so after trying all of them I bought the Korg Grandstage which blows the CP4 and 88 away in all facets

Not up to the hype

The piano sounds aren't up to speed. I own a P125 that sounds more natural IMO. One of the keys is hotter than neighbor keys when struck with same force. I was enticed by the UI and the Yamaha brand. It's past 45 days so a return is not an option, It will sit in my garage as a practice instrument. There's a reason you don't see these on stages anywhere. Spend the money on a Nord.
This piano is one of the best that I've ever owned!

This is a great instrument with an excellent and easy to use interface and great Yamaha piano sounds. The Keys are also a plus; they have the closest an instrument like this can come to the feeling of a real piano keys. The interface is very intuitive, simple, yet powerful.
Brilliant board-BEST EVER!!

Can I record directly from my Yamaha CP88 keyboard onto a USB device, and them play it back using just the keyboard? I'm the director AND accompanist for my choir. I'd like to be able to direct them instead of playing the accompaniment.

I see the USB on the back of the keyboard, but I want to know if it is only for inputting tracks or if I can also put onto it. Can I record the audio I play on the CP88 directly to a USB drive?
You would just need to connect this piano to an audio interface in order to record audio.submitted5 years ago

How is this "blemished"?
Unfortunately, we have no way of knowing what the blemish is. However, it would only be a minor cosmetic flaw and would not effect the items play ability.
