Description
Class-D Amplifier
The EMX5 features a built-in high-efficiency power amplifier of 2 x 630W of output power. Despite its low power consumption, this amp is capable of very high volume output, yet still remains surprisingly lightweight. It is equipped with onboard overload protection function to improve reliability and prolong component life and performance quality.
Complete Range of Input & Output Channels
The EMX5 is equipped with four mono input channels and four mono/stereo input channels, allowing up to eight microphones and line-level devices, such as keyboards and portable playback device to be connected to each channel. In addition, channel 4 can be used with Hi-Z inputs to connect instruments, such as guitars or basses directly. It is also equipped with 2 AUX SEND connections for a monitoring system or external effect devices, REC OUT unbalanced RCA pin output jacks to connect an external recorder, and STEREO OUT TRS phone jacks to output the mixed stereo signal.
Onboard Feedback Suppressor
EMX5 is equipped with a Feedback Suppressor that utilizes a unique Yamaha digital technology to instantly eliminate annoying feedback with the single switch of a button, which utilizes a seven-band notch filter.
3-Band Equalizer Control
With individual knobs you can adjust the [HIGH], [MID] and [LOW] audio frequencies. You can operate instantly turning the control to amplify (boost) and attenuate (cut) the corresponding frequency band.
1-Knob COMP
EMX5 is equipped with the popular 1-knob COMP function used in MGP and MG series models. By simply operating a single control, it is possible to get optimal compression for vocals and instruments. As the [COMP] control is turned to the right, the threshold, ratio and output gain are adjusted simultaneously.
Comprehensive, Professional Effects and Signal Processing
EMX7/5 are equipped with a powerful, comprehensive DSP section that provides a total of 24 different effects that are in the same league as Yamaha's famed SPX effect processor series used by professionals. It is possible to add reverb and delay effects that simulate the sound of different performance environments, such as concert halls and small clubs.

Was good, for about 18 months...

I bought the EMX5 to replace a sturdy old Yamaha EM88. I use it to support my acoustic duo. Playing maybe 2 or 3 times a month, only as a mixer feeding powered speakers. No power amp use. Very light duty and carefully transported, Always stored in a climate-controlled spare bedroom. Less than 2 years into use, the "protection" circuit/overload warning now lights up and the meters show max. Not about to plug this into my speakers. Surprised and disappointed. I always have believed in Yamaha gear. Good thing I had my old back-up Yamaha to bail me out.

Bought to downsize my system and get rid of the rack mount setup. I ran a mackie profx12 in my rack and loved the quality and sound of it, and this is right there with it, maybe better.
I Miss my old Yamaha mixer but this one is good

I miss the graphic EQ (like on me EMX 88). I wish at least one stereo channel had compression. There is a massive input difference between Mic and line input levels, larger Delta than any other I've seen. Other than those items I think this device will be a higher powered, lighter weight performer. I use it for my acoustic duo and for the occasional party for DJ-like sound reinforcement (without the DJ).
FEEDBACK SUPPRESSOR? YEAH RIGHT

After having an EMX860st blowing one channel after many years of pure enjoyment, we decided on the EMX5 for our three piece power trio. The venues we have recently used this in have only required us to run 2 vocal mics and the kick drum D6 thru it. So basically nothing that this unit should not be able to handle with ease. At rehearsal when first setting this up, we were literally blown away at the crystal clear sound we got with a CBR15 connected. Seriously like studio quality. BUT... once cranking it up at a gig (and I mean any volume past 12-1 oclock on main knob, we get feedback that is unable to be tamed by anything we try. I mean we tried dropping individual line inputs, eq, effects, monitor, changing placement of everything on stage and still FEEDBACK above that level. The feedback suppressor switch is there for what purpose? We think its for show...bc does absolutely nothing. We have found out that others have complained about this very thing. Who knows if this is problematic with only certain units but just wanted to let it be known that there is an issue. I have also read many reviews raving about the high volume output so possibly only some effected. But either way, we are now going to use something else. Its unfortunate because overall this mixer has everything at good price. But sound is most important so for us this was a waste of money.

Love it. Installed it in the fellowship hall at church with new Speaker cables (a 75' and a 50' cable run for right and left channels) with Speakon connectors to our existing 15" Yamaha loudspeakers rated for 500W to 1000W peak. It cranks out sound. Fills a 60' by 48' room with sound. For speech over a wireless mic, volume knob around 4 fills the room well. Playing a DVD connected to a projector by HD cable then audio out from the projector with a 3.5 mm plug at the projector to XLR using the line switch cranks out room filling sound around 3 on the volume knob. Love the knob that configures the sound for speech to music to bass boost as you turn the knob from left to right. Love the built in 3.5 mm connector for an iPod or iPhone or tablet. Love the mic channel 1-7 all mute. Love the Hall effects selection. Very happy with our new mixer. Very quickly connected and labled two wireless mics, a wireless A/V router for connecting laptops wirelessly, a video projector and a feed from our upstairs sound system to the downstairs system. Excellect, clear sound partly from this new mixer and partially from the new high end speaker cabling (that we also ordered online from guitar center). Very happy customers!
