Good Sound, Good Price, Fun to Play

I bought this as a gift for my grandson. He had been playing and 'coveting' my pristine, 50-year old Martin D12-28. I didn't want to let that go any further, so I looked around find some other options for him. We chose the FG820 12-string After playing other options under $1000 from Guild, Martin, and Taylor. It had a great sound, and was the least expensive option. He's had a Yamaha FS800 6-string for year that he likes and plays a lot, so we were pretty comfortable going this route. He's had the FG820 now for a few weeks, and so far is very happy with it. First of all, it sounds great - my D12-28 may have a better sound, but not nearly 10 times as much. I was pleasantly surprised to find the action was right on and the intonation was excellent. The frets are level and fret ends are smooth, but they could probably use some crowning ad polishing. The neck is smooth and comfortable. The urea nut and saddle seem to work okay, though I'm sure others might want to replace them. The tuning keys seem to work just fine. I've got a few high-end acoustics, but I'm constantly surprised at the quality of the low-price guitars you can get these days. I certainly include the Yamaha FS800 6-string and FG820 12-string in that. These are excellent guitars for a 12-string beginner or intermediate player; and, I wouldn't hesitate to use this guitar for a gig.
Pretty Nice, action is a little high.

Bought this as an open box item. Arrived in mint condition. Really a beautiful instrument. Sounds awesome. My only issue is that the action is just a little too high for my liking, especially with twice the strings to press down. I'll be taking it in for a set up and it should be good to go.

I have a slew of electrics as well as a Guild and a Martin acoustic. This guitar amazes me....sound, quality, appearance, playability at this price point? Blows me away. I've had mine for about a year now. I'm very happy with the tuning stability. 12 strings can be a real pain.
Yes, I would buy this Guitar again

I bought this Guitar used in mint conditon. The playability, sound and construction are superior for a Guitar at this level. You will be hard pressed to find another 12 string that plays and, is such of high quality for the price you will pay. It would last a lifetime if well taken care of.
Very nice for the price!

It's hard to beat the quality of this guitar at this price. It plays nice right out of the box. I bought 2 of the 6 string fg800's and was very impressed, so got the 12 string as well no regrets. I've played for 40 years and have more expensive guitars but these compare well.

I've played a Yamaha 12 string before and loved it. I'm wondering if this is the only Yamaha model to make sure before purchasing it.
There is also the Yamaha APX700II-12 Thinline 12-String Cutaway Acoustic-Electric Guitar.submitted6 years ago
