Perfect Little Travel Buddy
I am really new to guitar playing. About 6 weeks. I find as a mom, that the times I have alone are often sitting in a parking lot in the front seat of my car waiting on a teenager to be done with some sort of practice, or social affair. Looking to get as much practice time as I can with my new instrument ( I play some others but never anything with strings.) I decided to find a travel guitar. Besides front seat playing we do travel often, sometimes as a family, and sometimes just me with the teenager who is often at some kind of sports practice and I am in a hotel... anyway this is the perfect guitar for my needs. It's really small. Which is what I wanted. I went to Guitar Center and looked at the travel guitars. They didn't really have many in stock, and though I liked the Baby Taylor (BT1), it was a little bigger and I thought I would save the extra money to put towards a real, main guitar. The Yamaha JR2.. or 3/4 size Folk fit my needs perfectly. The action is great. The neck width not too small.. actually think it's the same as my big Dreadnaught. I was toying between the JR1 and the JR2, but the salesman at GC said the bag is worth the extra few dollars. At the store they only had the tobacco finish which I really wasn't a fan of, so went home and ordered the natural on line. I would have to agree with the salesman. The gig bag that comes with the JR2 is fantastic. Great shoulder straps (backpack), good padding, pockets, and really smart looking too (It's milk chocolate brown, sometimes hard to see in pictures). Plenty of room for a couple books, my capo, tuner and extra picks with room to spare... even my keys, phone and wallet. If you want a comfy little traveler, that sounds good for it's small size (sound wasn't my utmost priority), is comfortable to play, set up perfectly with good action right out of the box, I highly recommend the Yamaha JR2 (3/4 Scale Folk).

Buzzy low E string
I bought this guitar for my little girl as Christmas gift, and unfortunately the Low E string is extremely buzzy, very unpleasant sound. I returned and ordered another exactly like the first one, and unfortunately it had the same problem.

Guitar sounds good out of the box and I was surprised the action was not too high, which I had heard it can be. I really like it but it is really small. I ended up with a Fender FA-15 - which seems like a true 3/4 size. It is really small and the strings are very close. Nice gig bag.

I have owned this JR2 for almost a year. I have a stable of much higher quality guitars, but this one is usually sitting within a foot or two of me at my computer desk and gets a LOT of play time. It's fun to play, and I don't worry about it getting scuffed up a bit. The frets are smooth, intonation great, action low, volume excellent. It comes with a well-padded gig bag that is better than some more expensive guitars I've bought. You could not ask for more out of a guitar at this price point. I have recommended this guitar to several people.

It feels good to hold and is great for any age beginner. Since it's small, its easy for people to learn how to easily switch between chords and stretch their fingers across for more complicated chords. It doesn't stay in tune very well on all strings but for the most part that's ok. I would say if anything it goes out of tune daily.
