The Yamaha MODX6+ is the smallest and lightest keyboard in the MODX+ series. Designed for synth players, MODX6+ offers a wide range of sound design capabilities, thanks to its 8-operator, fully programmable FM-X engine with up to 128-note polyphony (double the original MODX). The MODX6+ features 61 semi-weighted, synth-action keys that are perfect for banging out blazing leads and solos. Like the rest of the MODX+ series, MODX6+ gets its power from the same technology found in the flagship MONTAGE keyboard, combining Yamaha’s AMW2 (Advanced Wave Memory 2) technology, and the advanced synthesis capability of FM-X (Frequency Modulation). The MODX6+ sound is derived from the same technology powering the flagship MONTAGE—Yamaha’s AWM2 (Advanced Wave Memory 2) sample-based engine and the FM-X (Frequency Modulation) synth architecture. AWM2 technology allows for a large amount of data compression without sacrificing sound quality, resulting in unparalleled, realistic sound reproduction. Add Movement to Your Sound

The real performance power of the MODX6+ series comes from its Motion Control technology, putting rhythmic and dynamic control at your fingertips for a unique, personalized sound. The Super Knob allows simultaneous control of up to 128 parameters in a single Performance. This means you can control nearly anything from mix functions like volume, pan and effect sends to detailed synth parameters like filters, LFOs and operators. Motion Sequences are tempo-synchronized, completely customizable control sequences that can be assigned to virtually any synthesizer parameter and provide incredible new ways of creating sound.

Fantastic addition to any synth lovers arsenal.

I'll start by saying I'm a diehard Roland fan with a side-love for Native Instruments sounds, and in my 30+ years buying and playing synths of all kinds, I've somehow never owned a Yahama. I actually went into my local Guitar Center to pick up a Korg something-or-another and got to playing the MODX6+, having no idea what it was or what it was capable of. Within 5 minutes I knew I was going to walk out with my own. This thing produces some of the most unique sounds you didn't know you needed. Not only that, it's pretty good at traditional sample-based sounds as well (though not up to par with what Roland offers). All of that and some great drums, sampling capability and a pretty competent sequencer round out what I think is one of the best synths of the past decade. If you're sitting on the fence, I recommend checking it out. My ONLY complaint? I didn't care for the feel of the MODX8+ weighted keys, so I opted for the 6. Your mileage may vary but I find Yamaha's weighted keys to be almost TOO weighted.

Not What I Expected

First impression were the videos I saw on Guitar Center. The sound engine was very impressive; triggering the purchase. However; once in my possession I learned that most of the sounds/tones are really patches comprising various sounds/tones. Me using my MPC as the centerpiece of my studio; I couldn't easily find an answer anywhere how to trigger the sounds collectively ie: channel 1 would only trigger one tone in the patch. After about a week of not being able to figure this out I just returned it to Guitar Center as the sounds weren't as impressive on their own. For a live musician; I could see this shining though.

    First impression of the keynboard, Its packed with awesome sounds and the layering is awesome and applicable to the work I do. There are literally only two problems for me. I 1. I wish I had an assignable output 2. after about 4 voices the polyphony gets wonky Other than that its great for everything I do. and I am a Reggae musician #sweepstakes

    The MODX+ is a powerful workstation with an impressive sound engine, giving me a wide range of possibilities, both in the studio and live on stage. The MODX+ is truly a versatile keyboard for all situations. The interface is intuitive and the size is super compact. It's a mini monster.

    use for generating bass, strings and pads under midi control for recording which fits the Modx+ perfectly - this is a step down from the Montage but I dont miss the added features with all of the Montage sounds
