What's the difference between the Montage M8x and the M6?
The primary difference between the Yamaha Montage M8x and M6 is the keyboard type: the M8x features a premium GEX keyboard with polyphonic aftertouch, while the M6 has a standard FSX keyboard with channel aftertouch, meaning the M8x allows for more nuanced sound manipulation by independently modulating the pressure on each held note, making it better suited for expressive playing, especially for pianists; both models otherwise share the same core features like the AN-X synthesis engine and AWM2 sound library, but the M8x generally has a higher price point due to its advanced keyboard capabilities.
