Yamaha P-125a Digital Piano Overview

Yamaha

collapse expand iconDescription

The Yamaha P-125A redefines the concept of an accessible digital piano. For starters, it delivers the renowned tone of Yamaha's acclaimed CFIIIS concert grand piano. What's more, its GHS weighted-action keyboard is heavier in the low keys and lighter in the high keys, providing the dynamic feel of hammers on real piano strings. For the ultimate in realism, the String Resonance and Damper Resonance DSP features recreate the sympathetic and reverberant sounds inside a grand piano when the dampers lift from the strings. A full complement of performance features and USB connectivity offer ample flexibility whether on stage, at home or in the studio. All told, you'll be hard-pressed to find an affordable digital piano that outperforms the Yamaha P-125A.

Authentic Grand Piano Tone

At the heart of the P-125A is Yamaha's Pure CF Sound Engine, which faithfully reproduces the tone of Yamaha's renowned CFIIIS 9' concert grand piano. With 88 notes meticulously sampled, the P-125A allows for incredibly dynamic and expressive playing. Whether practicing classical pieces, playing jazz, or creating your own compositions, you'll experience a rich, resonant grand piano tone with each and every note.

Weighted Keyboard Action

The P-125A features Yamaha's acclaimed GHS weighted action with matte black keytops. The keyboard is heavier in the low keys and lighter in the high keys, just like an acoustic piano. This graduated weighting provides the dynamic feel of hammers on strings for an authentic playing experience. The matte finish on the keys prevents fingers from slipping during dramatic performances.

Advanced Features for Expressiveness

For the ultimate expressiveness, the P-125A offers String Resonance, which recreates the sympathetic vibrations of other strings when the damper pedal is pressed. Damper Resonance DSP simulates the reverberation inside a piano's soundboard when the dampers lift from the strings. Key-off samples capture the delicate nuances produced the instant a pianist's fingers lift from the keys. The result is an incredibly rich and complex tone that faithfully reproduces the sound dynamics of an acoustic grand piano.

Connectivity and Flexibility

The P-125A offers USB to Host connectivity, allowing connection to recording software and music apps on Mac, PC and iOS devices. It also features a 1/4" headphone jack, dual headphone outputs and built-in speakers. Use the P-125A's Sound Boost to enhance volume and EQ for small venues. The Duo mode splits the keyboard into two halves, each with their own middle C, ideal for student/teacher or duo piano performance.

Great piano sound

The piano, Rhodes, DX7-type piano, and the other few sounds of the P-125 are better quality than any one sound that you'll find the more expensive Roland RD-88. Apparently, Yamaha elected to give you higher quality sounds rather than a larger variety of different sounds. If you care a lot about the actual piano SOUND, then the P-125 is a great board. Keep in mind that only the P-125B has audio outputs to connect to a monitor, PA, or to record direct. For me, that is a must. AFAIK the P125-A does not have auxiliary outputs. The sustain pedal that comes with this piano is basically a toy to get you started. But, a Yamaha FC4A sustain pedal is only about $26. Some people complain that the key action is heavy, but I don't have a problem with it. Making the switch to an acoustic piano will be that much easier.

Dissapointed with quality

Was very happy with the purchase at first, but after a month piano started to make weird sound in "piano" mode. Sent back for warranty replacement. Waited for 2 weeks for the replacement to arrive just to find out that one of the key is sticking and not coming back up! Now awaiting collection and warranty replacement again. Piano was purchased for my 10 years boy, who was preparing for a Grade 5 exam and now most likely we will have to postpone exam, as he couldn't practice for more than a month :( Otherwise piano is very nice to play, good sound and feel.

I like it. The price was right. It looks and sounds great. My only beef is that there really needs to be a series of videos showing how to use it. Some of us are visual learners. The manual is often too complex and presupposes knowledge I don't have. If I could SEE it done it would really help. There are a couple of videos by others on YouTube, but Yamaha really should offer videos tutorials to support the manual.

I think it works a lot better than my old keyboard for sound quality. I got to play it once live in a performance, and it went pretty well. It's been the most beneficial playing and recording songs at my place of residence.

I thought it would be fun to have a keyboard in addition to my piano. Turns out I use the keyboard more than the piano! It's fun to play and I know I haven't even scratched the surface of what it can do. I was able to assemble everything by myself within a couple of hours and I'm almost 70 years old! So anyone can do it. If you didn't think a keyboard could match an acoustic piano, think again. This has been a great purchase.

I have always wanted a piano since I was a child and finally at the age of 68 I was given the Yamaha P-125a as a Christmas present Having only previously played acoustic pianos I am quite frankly amazed at the range and versatility of this piano, it is truly amazing. I really didn't want to have a keyboard with a multitude of voices but the P-125a is a wonderful fun thing to play

Not really, not like an acoustic piano. They're 'Hard/medium/soft/fixed' according to Yamaha.
