The Perfect Metal China Cymbal

As a metal drummer influenced heavily by such drummers as Lars Ulrich, Mike Portnoy and even The Rev as of late, I've always been a big fan of the power, raw sound and sheer brutality of a good china cymbal. A china is definitely a flavor to a set that I think every metal drummer should have. But, the trouble is finding a china cymbal with enough cut, brutality, and even musicality to fit the heavy music around you. Well, I was at my local Guitar Center looking for a new china, when, on an impulse, I tried out the 18" Oriental China. I could not believe how quick and brutal the sound was. It was so unbelievably unique and tasteful that I fell in love with it immediately. A few months later, I began to want more sounds to my set (like every other superflous set-loving prog drummer) and tried out the 16" Oriental. Again, I was more than amazed. This one had even MORE brutality, cut and sheer VOLUME than the 18". I was so pleased with the 16 and 18" Orientals that I also purchased the 12" which had an amazingly tasty, almost ping-like bite to it that I absolutely adored. After playing these three chinas, I can honestly say that I will never need to search for another type of china cymbal ever again.

Great sound, not so great durability

i've been through two of these chinas:an 16" and 18". both of which i had for about 5-7 months before they broke. the sound is very worth the money but if you play hard, i would recomend getting the replacement insurance thing. other than that it's a very good china.

In my humble opinion, this is zildjian's best china in production. Sounds just as a china should (in my opinion.) Trashy, utterly devoid of pitch, very fast attack, but with some undertones that continue to ring out after the initial hit. This china is highly versatile, when struck at the edge of the bow, it produces a darker sound, with a hint of wash. When struck hard right at the inverted lip, it is pure white noise, an intense, trashy hit that decays almost immediately after impact. Watch out, I am about to be opinionated: !! This, to me, is one of very few currently produced zildjian chinas that can hold a candle to the old A and K china boy selections.

  • Great china would buy again.
