I spent a long time looking for a china, and thank goodness I waited til I found this. I was looking for something that was decently high pitched but without bright ringy overtones. If that is what you're looking for, this is the perfect china for you. It's got a great volume despite being only 17 inches (relatively small for a china), and in the month I've had it, it has held up great. Definitely recommend this for any punk drummer out there, or someone just looking for a great china.

I saw this cymbal on the website when i was looking for a great china to complete my cymbal lineup, i have to say, i found everything i wanted in this china. I tried tons of cymbals, from Zildjian, Sabian, and Paiste. I ended up choosing between this 17" dark, the Z3 20", and the Sabian AAXtreme 19". I picked this one and i am so glad i did. It is my favorite and loudest cymbal, it has such a bright high pitched attack with a clean decay, it can be the punch of a metal breakdown, a nice accent, or just a change up instead of a crash. This is a light cymbal, but it can take abuse from hit after hit without even a scratch. No matter what type of music you play, this will make a great addition to your kit. It is an expensive cymbal, but it will be worth every penny.

i hear alot of people saying these are jazz cymbals. i say no, i play thrash metal and these are the toughest cymbals around. i have the hats, three crashes two rides two chinas and a few splashes. only like two are zildjian a custom. mix em up a bit, they sound simply amazing. this china itself is loud, trashy and is an overall amazing buy. way better than zildjian oriental.

You can use either. It depends on the sound you're looking to get.
