I purchased a less expensive Pocket Trumpet online to decided whether I liked the PT idea. Was I ever surprised! Such fun. So I set out to improve what I already enjoyed. I wanted a better construction, slide fit, intonation and I wanted something unique, such as the Rose Brass bell finish. The Allora brand Rose Brass bell is unique. The price point was about right for my envisioned use. First impressions....the bell is small, but sturdy. Out of the box, the valves were not responsiveness. As I sat in my car, I debated making an immediate return. But, rational thought prevailed....I would take it home, clean it up, play it a little. And I have - it is only 24 hours later. I do NOT plan to return this PT because it met all of my desired improvements and after cleaning and oiling the valves twice they are very responsive. All of the slides functioned great out of the box, but it was important to remove each, clean it with a soft cloth and then clean and re-install. All move easily, and are easy to removed and install. Be patient with installing the slides...because they are small. The laquer finish across the instrument is uniform. Compared to my first PT, the Allora feels to be made of heavier gauge brass, and fit and finish are much better. And where I originally felt the bell was a tad stubby, I actually like the fact that it is not an issue to deal with. I have been able to use my full size trumpet mutes (straight, cupped and wah-wah). The case is adequate, the outside pocket very useful. I would like to upgrade it one level. The PT also uses all regular trumpet mouthpieces and is responsive to different characteristics which affect sound production. One very important feature for me is that there is sufficient space for my right hand thumb to fit under the mouthpiece lead tube. The PT is made in China which I could not find online...not an issue to me. I highly recommend this PT.
