Making of the Audix D6 Drum Microphone

Audix Artist Gabor Dornyei's Drum Mic Setup

Zoro on Why He Chooses Audix Microphones for Drums

Description
The Audix D6 is a high-performance dynamic microphone handcrafted in the USA specifically for kick drums and other low-frequency instruments. The D6 utilizes a Very Low Mass diaphragm and cardioid pickup pattern to accurately reproduce your kick drum's tone with clarity and power. Its wide 30 Hz to 15 kHz frequency range can handle sound pressure levels up to 144dB, capturing every nuance of your playing.
Very Low Mass Diaphragm for Natural Sound
The D6's Very Low Mass diaphragm is extremely sensitive, allowing it to pick up the kick drum's low frequencies with precision. The result is a full, natural tone that represents your drum's actual sound. The cardioid pickup pattern rejects unwanted noise and feedback, isolating your kick drum's sound.
Roadworthy Construction for Live Use
With its rugged yet lightweight aluminum body and steel mesh grille, the D6 is built to withstand the rigors of live performance. It features gold-plated Switchcraft connectors, laser-etched graphics and a durable hard coat anodized finish. A tension-fit nylon mic clip is also included.
Transformerless Design for Interference-Free Signal
The D6's transformerless circuitry and balanced, low-impedance output provide an interference-free signal even over long cable runs. You'll get a clean, accurate sound from your kick drum on stage and in the studio.
Perfect for Kick Drums and Low Frequencies
With its extended low-frequency response and ability to handle high SPLs, the D6 excels on kick drums, floor toms, bass cabinets and other instruments with substantial low end. It's an essential microphone for capturing a full, impactful kick drum tone in live and recording applications.

I needed a kick mic for my DW Collectors series drum kit. I bought 3 mics and This was my choice. Best sound out of the box between Audix D6, Sure Beta 52A and Sennheiser evolution e 902. Although Sennheiser evolution e 902 was right there with this mic. I've been recording for thousands of hours for many years.
