Bought mine about 6 years ago. At that time, the plug had a springy ring on it that completed the circuit only when it was plugged into something. (plug it in and the springy washer was compressed and the cable was live). If you by one now, make sure you get the locking version. That way, when you push the button it turns off the circuit, otherwise you have to hold the button in while unplugging/plugging the guitar. Good quality cable, good sound and a lifetime warranty. Life is good...
I can't complain… no scratches or dents and great finish wo.

The product is excellent albeit a bit pricey for an instrument cable. Unlike older editions of Planet Wave Cables (Now D'Addario) with the built in circuit breaker, you MUST hold the button down and keep the button pressed while plugging and unplugging the cable from your instrument.. The older cables with circuit breaker buttons worked more like an on and off switch. I was confused at first because of this difference.

I tried three of these before determining that they all make a worse pop when you mash the mute button that if you just pull out the plug without turning down the amp. It's a good idea, it just doesn't work.
