The remote hi-hat is another tool in the tool-box. With the remote set to my right side, I can "cheat" playing open-handed as a right-handed drummer, as opposed to playing my normal hi-hat with my left hand. I can also continue to use the normal hi-hat to keep time while playing ostinatos on the remote with my right hand.

  • Unless I get me some info, I wouldn't recommend to anyone.

I'm pleased with how the product works, I tour 56 dates in the summer, 46 in the winter, with oher dates sprinkled in and around the calendar. Thus, I get alot of use out of the product. However, it's road worthyness seems to be lacking. The cast piece where the post connects and the cable connects. on the bottom where the cable connects the actual screw hole is stripped. It's obvious this part is unable to withstand the rigors of the road. That said, I've made numorous attempts to email DW with NO response. DW is too busy patting theslves on the back to respond to customers I would imagine. Phone calls go unanswered, or no return calls. Sweetwater On the other hand, is doing their best to get me some info, but I'm not confident. At this point if I can't get the part, I'll have to take it to a metal shop and have it retooled. That being the case, I'll sell it and buy one from a different company, that can take the abuse of the road.

I bought the 9503 (9000 series) with the 4 foot cable option. It is easy to assemble and the components seem very well built. For now, I am experimenting with open hand drumming. It works great, has a solid feel, and is very versatile where I can put the pedal and/or head any where I want. The 9503 setup comes with a mounting dogbone vs the more versatile mount that the 9502 has. I made it work on my rack setup, so mounting is up to the user. The other option is about $70 more and includes the drop lock clutch, the more versatile mounting system, and a bag. The stands themselve are the same though.

I like the hi hat very much, we'll built, just like all my DW gear. I was not informed about a shipping date or when I could expect to receive my package. And had to request that information with a email. I was not happy about that.

A lot of the hardware on my kit is DW. They make excellent products. Hate to say it, but this was one a bit of a disappointment. I ended up buying and returning this item two times. The first time I returned it was, because the contents of the box to not match with what the outside of the box says should be inside. The first one I bought had obviously been opened before I purchased, so I just assumed that someone had remove the (1) Low-Profile Cable Housing, (2) SOS Drop Clutch and (3) Carrying Bag. I returned in and ordered a new one. The next one was clearly in an unopened box with factory glue, but those same three items were missing again. After speaking with DW, I learned that DW made some special accommodations for GC by omitting those three items, so GC can sell it at a lower price. The second time I returned it was, because there are several quirky things about the functionality of this product. The main problem I have with this stand is the angle of the pedal. The angle is significantly higher than any other HH pedal I've ever used and was just awkward as hell and worst of all, the angle cannot be adjusted. I called DW and they confirmed that the angle could not be adjusted. This was the main reason I returned it for the second time, but some other things I did not like about it was that no matter how hard I pressed down on the pedal, I could never get a tight "chick" from my HH cymbals. It was the same sound that you get if you were to unscrew your clutch and just let your top hat rest on your bottom hat. Very loose and washy sounding. Also, the felts were pretty jacked up too. I tried to sandwich the bottom hat in between the two felts that were provided, but the felts are so thick that my top hat and bottom hat were unable to touch. There was about a half inch space in between the top and bottom hat. I had to go to my local GC and buy a set of thin HH felts before I ever was able to try it out. On a positive note, I ended up buying the Pearl RH-2000 Eliminator Remote Hi-Hat Stand and love everything about this stand. I am going to leave a review on it for anyone who might be interested.
