I just replaced my Evans hydraulic heads with these DW heads. Sounds great, plus I have a DW kit too so it looks awesome.

  • I will definitely buy these heads again

These are the stock tom heads DW ships with their new Colllectors series drums. They are Remo Clear Ambassadors with a little frosted coating in a circle around the edge of the head only. I think the coating takes away a little of the "plastic" tone Clear Ambassadors can have, without muffling it as much as a fully coated ambassador. I think the counterhoop under the head is just a little heavier duty than the regular Remo head, and I've found that these heads last longer and stay in tune longer than the regular Remo head. So if you think you're spending extra money on the DW head, and getting a regular Remo head, you will get your money back in durability. Pick up one of each head in one hand and you can tell. I had bought a DW set with these heads on them, really enjoyed the sound until it was time to replace them, and on a lark, threw them on a set of Remo Mastertouch drums a friend was playing. I was knocked out with the sound of the DW Coated/Clear heads on the Remo drums. Since then, I have used them on a set of Gretsch Renown, and old Tama Artstars. They are my go-to tom head. They do make those tom-toms on four different manufacturers sound very much alike, but I do prefer the consistency of sound. Some people complain that Clear Ambassadors ring too long, but it's a nice ring of you have nice drums and know how to tune. It's very bright sound, I say it's warm , which people find a bit of an oxymoron. A bright, warm head? They have a bright attack and a long warm sustain if you're doing it right. If you think they ring too much, use a little muffling like a Remo O-Ring or equivalent. It's better to have too much sound and tamp it down than not enough. I've seen people complain about "pitting" or dents when played by heavy players, but those players are going to put those dents in any one-ply head and they should switch to PinStripes , or some other kind of head. It's not the heads fault you are banging dents in them!

  • Best sounding heads on PDP/DW period!

I have used these heads on at least 3 different PDP sets, 2 X7 kits and an M5 kit. Paired with the maple shells, the drums sing beautifully but also cut down on overtone enough to not need any muffling with proper tuning. I paired them with factory bottom heads (I believe REMO ambassadors) and they sounded much better than the price of the kit would suggest. These heads really do change the quality of your kit. I will be ordering another set as soon as my new DW design series comes in. Love them and will continue to use them as long as they are around!
