Epiphone

collapse expand iconDescription

The Epiphone Les Paul Studio electric guitar delivers the classic sound of a Les Paul for musicians on a budget. This no-frills take on an iconic instrument features a mahogany body topped by a maple veneer for balanced tone with clarity and depth. Its slim mahogany neck and 12" radius Indian laurel fretboard provide fast, comfortable playability.

Alnico Classic Pro Humbuckers Provide Versatile Tone

The Epiphone Les Paul Studio is equipped with dual Alnico Classic Pro humbucking pickups that produce the warm, fat tone that Les Pauls are known for, along with higher output for modern styles. Coil-splitting via the volume control allows single-coil tones for added versatility. This affordable Les Paul can produce anything from bell-like cleans to aggressive rock tones.

Stable Hardware Keeps You in Tune

Grover Rotomatic tuners and a Tune-O-Matic bridge with stopbar tailpiece provide rock-solid intonation for this Epiphone Les Paul Studio. Stable tuning is essential for an instrument at this price, and Epiphone delivered with quality hardware that won't let you down on stage or in the studio.

An Iconic Shape and Style

With its arched top, single-cutaway mahogany body and distinctive Wine Red or Smokehouse Red finishes, the Epiphone Les Paul Studio has an iconic shape that has influenced countless other electric guitar designs. Its visual style matches its legendary tone, giving you an instrument that looks and sounds like a classic at an affordable price.

Modern Weight Relief Reduces Feedback

Epiphone's Modern Weight Relief process removes some wood from the mahogany body to make this Les Paul lighter while reducing unwanted resonances that can lead to feedback at high volumes. The result is an instrument primed for performance on stage without sacrificing the full tone of a Les Paul.

Astounding if You Find the Right One

I was able to find an astounding example of an Epi LP Studio in Smokehouse Burst at a GC in Highland Park, IL after visiting 4 other GCs in the Chicagoland area. No manufacturing flaws. Setup was superb with low action all across the neck, well-intonated, good dampening of harsher frequencies, and it sounded clean and articulate like an LP should even with high gain. A/B'ed it with a Gibson LP Studio through the same amp. It was almost identical in sound and playing feel. The Epi's PUs had slightly less output, but it wasn't anything a small bump in amp volume couldn't fix. I highly doubt anyone could tell the difference in sound if blindfolded and volumes were matched. This wasn't the necessarily the case for some of the other Chinese Epi LPs examples I tried. I went through others that didn't feel as well setup or didn't sound as good. I'm not saying they were trash. Epi LPs are on average really good guitars for the price. They all sounded and played decently, but some had actions that felt a bit high, some had necks that felt slightly cheap and hollow, some sounded a little noisy and inarticulate with high gain. At this price point and due to variances in Chinese manufacturing, I highly recommend physically going to multiple GCs and playing a lot of Epi LPs within a short time. I recommend first playing some real Gibson LPs to get a general feel for what what you're aiming for. Then go on the Epi hunt so you can feel and hear the small compromises that the drastic price difference entails (Epis have really narrowed the quality/sound gap, lately, but the differences are there if you look for them). In my case, I found one with practically no compromises when compared to a Gibson LP Studio. The GC employee asked if I wanted a new-in-box guitar instead of the one what was hanging on display. I emphatically told him, "No, I want THIS one!" It was that good. With perseverance and patience, you can find your special, Epi guitar that meets or exceeds a real Gibson LP. When you find it, don't hesitate. Just buy it and be astounded at what a steal of a guitar you got.

Nice guitar but has some serious QA issues

Although this may first appear to be a high quality built guitar, it seems to be hit or miss when it comes to quality assurance issues, and what you actually get out of the box. I took the one I bought at a local GC to a very respected local luthier to have it checked out due to string buzz and fretting. It turns out after an extensive workup that 14 of the frets are not level, the nut was cut incorrectly, as well issues with the bridge saddles. This certainly explains why the guitar could never really be setup correctly. I now have to return the guitar to GC. Its shame because visual and over build quality feel are very good, and it does use good quality hardware and electronics. However, due to the inconstancy coming out of the factory, I cannot really recommend this instrument. It seems to be too much of a 'guitar lottery' on whether you receive a good one or not.

Neck feel and electronics (sound variation) great. Frets sharp edges need filing, action could be better, will need adjustment. Only complaint not covered by manufacturer or GC.

  • Great Les Paul for the price point!

I bought this because I wanted to get back into playing an instrument, as I haven't picked up a guitar in around 18 years. Starting over as a beginner with this guitar has been incredible. The wine red finish is classy and well done. Stays in tune over multiple sessions. Was set up nicely out of the box and I found No issues with sharp frets or any of the usual nitpicks. If you've always wanted to try out a quality Les Paul without breaking the bank, this is for you! #sweepstakes

I got this guitar for the humbuckers and sustain and it delivers that Les Paul sound. It looks nice, the burst finish could be a little more smoothed out. The tone pots probably need an upgrade, especially on the bridge pickup. It's fun to play and makes bends way easier than a Fender.

In the specs under electronics the control layout says that the 2 volumes have push/ pull coil splitters but directly under this the special electronics: none. Does the studio really have coil splitters or not?

All guitars vary depending on the density of the wood. Manufacturers usually only spec size and type of wood. Guitars are generally between 6 and 12 lbs. They can be more. The only way to know the weight of an individual instrument is to weigh it. This will be approximately 7.8 - 9.00 lbs

So I planned on getting this on my birthday, so when it ships in would I be able to ask the store people if I can get it adjusted? How would I do that? Is the store even open for walk ins? How much would it cost?

This guitar automatically comes with a factory setup. The store would charge a fee if you would like any additional adjustments to be made. Most of our store locations are open for walk ins at this time.
