Great Heads

I have a Sound Percussion drum set which of course is not a top of the line drum set. It is actually a low class with terrible stock heads. I upgraded to these heads and it completely changed my outlook on my set. It pretty much showed that you dont have to buy an expensive set to have great sound, you just need the right heads and these are them

New drum head/reso combo experiment.

I was looking for a new combination of batters and resos, but the onyx was a bit too muffled even for my liking. Went with coated G2s over coated G1s instead.

I have a US custom built OCDP, 20+ years old, set and have never used any other head on these drums. The Onyx heads give me just the right tone I'm looking for and the durability I need. I only change them because they're wore out. I've never broken an Onyx head and never had one fail me during a performance. I love the tone of these heads, great mid to low end, the sustain is short which is fine for the music I play. Paired with a coated G1 on the bottom, it's the perfect combo for my 6 ply Maple toms. Recording, they sound full and great low end. I tune my heads pretty loose and I get the sound I want and these heads make it possible. If you're looking for a batter head that's durable, has great mid to low end and gets the job done, look no further.

Its been a couple of weeks and a couple of shows since I switched over to the Onyx heads and I am happy to have done so. I notice they have great attack with an expanded low end fullness to them. They are especially well for any situation where they will be miced up. I play them with no moongels or rings and they have the right amount of sustain as is. Finally the volume drop others have mentioned is very slight and nothing to worry about.

  • Yes I would definitely buy this product again

This head is just outstanding. One hundred percent as advertised. Brings out the dead 70s thump like sound that I was looking for. My 16" floor tom sounds much deeper than my bass drum now.
