How To Choose A Bass Drum Head

Description
EVANS brings studio-grade sound to the stage with the Onyx Resonant 24" bass drum head. The Onyx Resonant features a fixed internal control ring and offset 5" mic port to provide drummers enhanced tone shaping and microphone control. With a single ply of 7.5-mil film and micro-clear coating, this resonant head produces a short sustain and dark, focused pitch ideal for both live and recording applications. The Onyx Resonant is designed and engineered in the USA to deliver premium performance for the professional drummer.
Internal Control Ring Tames Overtones
The Onyx Resonant's built-in overtone control ring helps produce a tight, focused tone with minimal ringing. This internal dampening allows drummers to achieve a balanced resonant sound with a controlled decay suitable for any venue or studio. The overtone control ring works in tandem with the offset mic port to provide drummers with tonal flexibility and microphone optimization right out of the box.
Offset 5" Mic Port Improves Microphone Capture
The Onyx Resonant features an offset 5" mic port with a protective plastic sleeve to enhance microphone performance. This offset port is positioned to the side of the drumhead to capture a tighter, more focused pitch and allow for precise microphone placement. The plastic sleeve also protects the port from damage, ensuring durability and consistent sound. This combination of offset mic port and protective sleeve provides drummers with a resonant bass drumhead designed for both live performance and studio recording.
Premium Construction for Professional Use
As with all EVANS drum heads, the Onyx Resonant is designed and manufactured in the USA using high-quality materials and exacting standards. The single-ply 7.5-mil film and micro-clear coating provide durability and a rich, dark tone. EVANS drum heads are trusted by professional drummers worldwide for their innovative designs, premium components and superior sound. Way back in the 80's these heads sucked as a batter head. But the color's on their heads were so cool I would use them as a resonate head and loved the sound. your drums don't ring as much and die out way faster. Gives you that gunshot thud. Had some in chrome on time. Yeah cant find them no more. So it was clear blue or red. Gloss black or these in matt black. They sound good.
The punch that leaves room for more punch

Hi I got the onyx because the EMAD's 4" opening sadly was not big enough for the kickport that I got with my Zildjian cymbal pack. The onyx solved that problem with its 5" opening which gives my bass a lower punch with the kick port. Now for more opportunities to rock with my set!
Great looking and sounding resonant head!

I bought this for my 22" Yamaha bass drum and I love the way that it looks and sounds. The dull black finish looks amazing I think. I have an Aquarian SK2 for my batter head (not enough funds to buy an EMAD batter yet) and the combination sounds great! I only have a small pillow in the bass drum and it gives me the perfect boom that I've been wanting for my bass drum.

Just put on my OCDP Avalon set. I did 2 6" ports on the bottom for recording purposes. Head tunes very well. Gives a nice little punch. All in all another great product in the Evans line up
