Blew my mind
I have been using modelers for almost 10yrs now. I love how the technology has progressed so much over a short amount of time, but one of the things I have missed most - and had to compromise on - is the feeling that an amp and cab give you. It is visceral 'thud' that guitar players love about analog gear. But it is heavy as rocks, breaks easily, and generally is difficult to lug around. I have tried several PA solutions, FRFRs, and studio monitors. None of them sound bad! But they all lack the immediate feeling a cab has. The closest I was to this was a Seymour Duncan Power Station plus a custom cab the size of a AC30. It was fun but not perfect. Enter this: the Fender Tone Master FR12. WHAT IN THE WORLD FENDER? They literally dropped this with the Tone Master Pro and said nothing else. What?! This thing, not the Pro, is the true game changer for digital units! This thing is the same size of a Deluxe Reverb but is actually light weight. And the sound! It is exactly what you would hope it would be. I only dialed back the bass a bit from high noon, just for the neighbor's sake below me. And the feeling! I play two notes when I first plugged it into my Axe FX 3 and immediately went, "Oh...that's interesting." For the next hour I was consumed with the long-lost feeling of tonal reverberation. The thuds, thumps, and roaring feeling of playing an amp has been unlocked in this unit. I don't know how Fender did it, but they did it. *PS: at the launch of this unit, some complained of a loud, persistent hiss. I did not find this to be the case at all. I can imagine the issue as follows: 1) people complained because they never played real analog gear that hisses inherently 2) they played digital gear for so long that they forgot what analog gear sounds like 3) they actually had a defective unit. Nonetheless, this unit is no louder than a normal amp, if anything much quieter. Do yourself a favor and buy this.

Used this with the Tone X and UA Dream 65. While this will "may" fill your need for a clean to mildly over-driven' option for amplifying your modelers, I'm not sure it has enough sculpting power for heavier tones. I bought this with the intent of replacing my older and now out of production Tech 21 Power-Deuce, "Not the Power Engine with lame Celestion 70/80's" lol. After A/B'ing both with my trusty Radial unit, I have to say, I couldn't get the treble, tin'y, raspiness to disappear, while the Tech 21's have way more tonal sculpting power, with hi, lo, and input damping, and a horn defeat, I am truly disappointed, I hope others have a better experience. There has to be better modern options than this.

OMG I don't know where the good reviews come from. At full performance volume "maybe" the noise floor is acceptable. At "bedroom" volumes the noise floor is roughly as high as the guitar volume. Completely unusable. Not sure why you need an EQ on a FRFR amp (isn't it supposed to be flat response?).
So good I want a second one!

I've been using a competitor's FRFR cab for a while but it was FAR too boomy and there was no way to tailor its EQ curve on it. The Fender Tone Master FR12 sounds and feels like a real amp. It's night and day from what I was using. I want a second one to run my Helix in stereo.

I have been running the TMP through the effects loop of my fender mustang GTX and thought how much better can the FRFR 10 or 12 be? I bought the 12 two days ago. The difference is incredible the FRFR 12 makes the TMP sound like the tone master amps the mustang could not replicate that sound.

So much better than the alto frfrs I had. Provides a more amp in the room feel and sound! Would definitely buy again and did! Now I have two for a stereo right. Great product!

Can you plug an audio interface such as the scalett 2i2 directly into this to use amp sims with on a computer or do you have to use a modeling pedal?
No, you can't. You can use the Line Out on the amp and plug it into the interface.submitteda year ago

How does this amp perform with single coil pickups, does it put out that nasty buzz
The amp has nothing to do with single coil noise issues. It will reproduce anything the guitar sends it.submitted2 years ago
