Gibson

collapse expand iconDescription

Since 1935, the Gibson Pickup Shop has been the source for the world’s finest pickups, including the player-favorite P-90 soapbar single-coil pickup. Each Gibson pickup is crafted in Nashville, TN, from premium materials using time-tested methods. The golden era of Gibson tone returns with the Gibson Pickup Shop Original Collection. Choose black or cream.

First introduced in the early 1950s, Gibson's legendary P-90 single-coil pickup produced a raw powerful tone that helped define the blues and rock and roll in their formative years. Today, the P-90’s traditional combination of high-output and brilliant tone is still considered a favorite among many top musicians. Known by such familiar nicknames as the “Soapbar” and the “Dogear” (both of which describe the two main styles of pickup covers used with P-90 pickups), the P-90 still cuts through any type of music, all while displaying amazing tonal sensitivity for everything from blues and rock to mellow jazz riffs. It's perfect as a vintage replacement and features vintage, braided two-conductor wiring. The Gibson P-90 soapbar single-coil pickup is also fully wax potted to eliminate any chance of unwanted microphonic feedback.

Wanted single coils to replace the P-100s in my ES-135. There are so many options for aftermarket p-90s and a million reviews online but it's tough to tell how they'll sound with a given guitar and amp combination without actually buying and installing them. I have a 90's Les Paul that has Gibson p-90s and I like those. I bought the Underwound version for the neck position.
