The Ibanez GSR200SM 4-string electric  bass delivers stunning looks and a dynamic range of tones at an incredible value. Part of Ibanez's renowned Sound Gear series, the GSR200SM features a poplar body with an eye-catching spalted maple top and a fast, comfortable neck that makes playing a joy. Its dual pickups—a Dynamix P neck pickup and Dynamix J bridge pickup—provide both punchy low end and crisp highs, while the onboard Phat II active bass boost adds thunderous lows with the turn of a knob. Whether you're just starting out or a seasoned pro, the GSR200SM inspires with its versatile sound and smooth playability.

Spalted Maple Top Provides Unique Beauty

The GSR200SM's spalted maple top gives it a one-of-a-kind look that is sure to turn heads. Spalted maple features distinctive markings caused by fungi that create visual texture. No two spalted maple tops are exactly alike, making each GSR200SM truly unique. Its eye-catching appearance is matched by a lightweight, contoured poplar body that provides comfort during long practice or performance sessions.

Dual Pickups Deliver a Range of Classic Tones

With a Dynamix P neck pickup and Dynamix J bridge pickup, the GSR200SM produces a variety of classic bass tones. The P pickup delivers a punchy, warm low end, perfect for rock and reggae. The J pickup produces a brighter, more defined tone ideal for slap bass and funk. Blend the two pickups to create your perfect sound. An onboard Phat II active bass boost provides up to an extra 6dB of powerful low end with the turn of a knob for a thunderous tone.

Fast, Comfortable Neck Inspires Fluid Playing

The GSR200SM features a fast, comfortable neck that makes it easy to play fluidly. Its slim profile fits comfortably in your hand, while its rosewood fretboard with medium frets enables low action and smooth slides up and down the neck. A standard 34" scale length and 22 medium frets provide traditional feel for natural, uncomplicated playing. The GSR200SM's ergonomic design reduces hand strain, even during marathon practice sessions.

High-Quality Components for Reliable Performance

The GSR200SM is equipped with high quality components to provide consistent performance gig after gig. It features a B10 bridge for solid intonation and sustain. Black hardware provides an understated yet stylish accent. Reliable volume and tone controls shape your sound with the turn of a knob. All components are carefully inspected to Ibanez's strict quality standards before the GSR200SM leaves the factory, ensuring you get an instrument that sounds and plays as good as it looks.

An outstanding first bass--i couldn't be more pleased

I love this bass guitar. I'm new to music and when i held this bass it just felt right. It's a great weight and it looks amazing. No fret buzz on my new from the factory one (horrible buzz on the G-String from my first one off the wall at the Marietta location). Electronics and controls work well and produce a great tone as well. It's a well made guitar as well. It's hard to put it down! Two weeks using so far and i made the right choice. This bass will not disappoint.

Be careful buying at Guitar Center

I fell disappointed and cheated, because I order a brand new bass (not a open box or refurbish) and for 3 times they send me used basses. After talking to the costumer service, I drove more than 50 miles and spend more than 2 hours to try to resolve the problem, but they offered me another used and more damaged bass than the first one, than tried to exchange for other model and offered 10% discount in the damaged one. I refused and said that I wanted a new one send from the warehouse and after a few days they send me AGAIN a used bass from the same store that I been, but this time in better conditions than the other 2... I will never buy again at Guitar Center and I recommend you to do the same, don't trust a company that cheat and lie to the costumers!!!

I've been playing for a little over 5-6 years now and played this at a gig and in rehearsals. My biggest issue was how thick the neck is. How ever that's my preference if you have decent size hands this is the bass for you. Has a thick sound to it and is full of power low mid and high.

  • Solid bass for a great price!

I've used to to record demos in the studio and have used this beautiful bass guitar many times in a jam session with my band. It feels great, lightweight & has a cool tone with an extra umph knob. #sweepstakes

I got this bass kind of on accident. I was trying to get a bass for the kids to learn on. I didn't know exactly what I was getting and needed a bass. I was surprised at how well the bass played. The neck feels fast and smooth, no fret buzz. The sound was amazing and the action feels great! Since then I got a short scale bass for my 10 year old son because this bass was too big for him. We tried a few short scale Jackson Minion and Even Mitchell MB100. The basses were ok but just never felt and sounded right. So I recently let my son play the Ibanez and he loved the sound and wanted to play it. The bass is a tad big for him but he's become more comfortable with it and now he loves it. I enjoy playing on it as well. If you don't have a lot to spend and you want a great sounding/ playing bass I don't know how you can over look this bass.

I needed a 'throw-away' Ibanez bass to take to crowded, sweaty, chaotic open jams around town. I am NOT bringing my $1,500 Ibanez to one of those! In this price range, you might get a bass with fret rattle or bad intonation, but I'm happy with this purchase. Maybe I got lucky? The only issue I have with this bass is that the two pick-ups where I rest my finger (or thumb below sometimes) are a bit sharp. I wound up taking my soldering iron to melt the harsh edges, and later a fine-grain piece of sandpaper to smooth over the edges that I touch. Now all is well. The guitar cord connector is a bit crackly if I fumble with it, but if I just wrap the chord around the strap holder, this should solve that issue. I really like how LIGHT this bass is! It's as light as my expensive Ibanez! I also like the sound of the single-coil pickups. You're not going to get balanced pickups in this price range, so you might have to compensate play by treading lighter on the E string, or run through a compressor. I've been playing for a few years, so playing with more dynamics is not a big deal, and for open jams, nobody will notice if the loudness of strings isn't as evenly split as with an expensive bass. I also like the simplicity of the four knobs. I don't need an array of switches. Keep it simple. Overall, there's nothing wrong with owning this bass if you're starting out. I would however just plan on smoothing over the edges of the pickups that you rest your fingers on. This bass is so cheap, don't worry about lowering the resale value by altering it!

  • Perfect Birthday Gift

I bought this as a 30th birthday gift for my husband (he's been wanting one since he was 14, but his parents got him an acoustic 6-string instead, boo). I was looking for something solid that wouldn't break the bank, and this was perfect! It's beginner, yes, but it's NICE beginner. Where it really shines so far is when we pair it with my Crayon distortion pedal and Vox amp. This thing crunches. It rumbles. It sounds like the earth is moving under our feet when my husband plays. Those pickups have some real power to them. The neck's finish is nice and satiny, so it doesn't stick to his hands as he moves them. The 4 dials allow a fair degree of sound customization. Aesthetically, it's gorgeous. The spalted maple wood is even prettier in person. I want to thank the people at the Roosevelt Way Guitar Center in Seattle for helping me pick this out. They got me one fresh out of the box, never used, with no signs of wear and tear. The one downside to this beauty is it came with some major fret buzz. I took it to a local luthier to get it set up, and after some minor adjustment, it plays fine. I'd buy this again in a heartbeat. My husband's face when he unwrapped it was priceless.
