LP Udu Drum Claytone #3

Description
The Udu's clay construction is based upon century-old African traditions. It is played with the palm of the hand and fingertips. The textured surfaces provide additional tonal variations when rubbed. The sound possibilities can be further expanded by using the unique microphone ports found in each chamber. Small mics can be mounted for amplification to capture the internal sounds. The Udu Drum is generally played in a seated position with the drum on the player's lap. It can also be played on a tabletop or floor using the included straw ring stands.

The LP Udu (Mbwata model) met my expectations with its earthy sound and beautiful appearance. The larger chamber produces a tone similar to table while the smaller, flat chamber produces a tone similar to a doumbek. When you play one, try holding your hand over one of the soundholes while playing the other one to produce various tones. We have it sitting in our music corner at home and it's a aesthetically pleasing addition to our instrument collection. Also, I have to applaud Guitar Center for their great customer service on the item's delivery. When we received the one that ordered originally, it was badly broken, due to being shipped upside down in the box. It was a birthday gift for my wife and she was disappointed to find a broken drum in the box after waiting for the back order. I called Guitar Center the same day it was received and the customer service rep was very professional and kind. She arranged for a new drum to be shipped out to us and had the return shipping label emailed to me, all on the same day. Thank you, Guitar Center!
