I just purchased this djembe after picking it up and being surprised by it's lively sound. I'm not a percussionist, but I like adding percussion to my homespun recordings, so I'm apt to try out just about any reasonably sized percussion instrument I think I have room for in my crowded condo. Like I say, I was surprised by how good this thing sounded, not being made of wood with a goat-skin head, as I'm used to. It's very lively sounding and I think it will record just fine. I've never had just a small djembe, but I like having instruments t hat ride the middle and upper registers that don't muddy up the recording, especially when there's a drum set on the track. This djembe does have a little ring to it that might need to be notched out with EQ if it conflicts with anything, but it's not a prominent feature of the sound, so I think it'll be alright. Seems very well constructed and assembled, the head being tensioned pretty evenly, I think. And it just look so cool and inviting, imploring me to play it.
