Great beginner set with some buts.

Apparently I'm space limited, so I'll try to be concise. You get what you pay for, in the sense that if you look at kinds of entry level cymbal sets for $300, hi-hat stands for $150+ you start to appreciate what you get here. You can start playing right away, provided you can get it all put together without instructions. MAKE SURE you get a drum key, or you'll have problems. Once set up and tuned well, hey, I'm pretty happy with it. The drums anyway. I've already got a towel in the bass because I don't like a lot of reverb from that. When you look at the cost of hardware and other metal, you will get my next point. If you're a faster learner, or have the basics down, you will outgrow at least the cymbals and hardware very fast. This is likely the biggest cost cutting. They're cheap and flimsy. My main issues are the hi-hat stand and throne. The throne is a death trap that I have to tighten every few minutes. If you aren't a child and weigh adult weights, bump your budget by $100 and get your own throne. Lastly, the hi-hat stand doesn't have a real clutch. Just a felt, a washer, and a nut that falls off ALL THE TIME unless you crank it down, which isn't right. Overall, It's a great way to get started, but just keep in mind like many things, it can quickly become a money pit.

Great for beginners and can be great for experienced drummer

I am 47 and have played drums since 4th grade. I have had the chance to bang around on one of these for the past few years. The kit itself is well built and sound great with upgraded heads. I've been pleasantly surprised with how well these play and feel. The kick drum sounds deep and has a satisfying punch when you add dampening to it. The snare is serviceable too, again with an upgraded head. I swapped out the kick pedal for a Tama iron cobra double which is obviously a significant upgrade but the stock pedal has a nice response and smooth feel and was completely fine for rehearsing. The one big negative for me is a common theme across the review board. The cymbals are REALLY bad. Unless you are a complete newbie, you will want to replace these immediately. I play hard rock/metal and use 5B sticks. After a few hours of playing on these the metal on the HH and ride was completely warped, bent and basically useless. All in all this is a very solid package for the money, is a quality choice for a first time drummer, especially young people, and can be upgraded and used by those with more experienced percussionists. If my son decides he wants to play when he's a bit older I'd look at this kit.

  • Decent set with toy cymbals

Just set this up and the drums aren't too shabby. Def work well for a beginner. BUT the cymbals are so bad. The crash sounds like a toy and has a definite "trashy" sound like a very poorly done china cymbal. In hindsight I should have bought a kit and got my own cymbals.

I'm using it for school soon but it sounds great. If you're able to get this kit in the "midnight purple color," it's the best looking on stage lights/ wherever you use it! I haven't even gotten any heads yet, but the stock heads sound great (if you tune them right). I thought this kit was going to be a pocket kit, but I won't need to get any kit for a long time!

I use it about 50% of my day and it is amazing. I started playing drums about three days ago and it has been nothing but great to me. I don't know much about drums yet, but this is definitely a very good starter set for people like me trying to start their music journey. I would definitely recommend this.

The ad says the set comes with a Hi-Hat stand and it shows in the pictures. I also read that there is no pedal for the Hi-Hat stand. Is this correct? If so where/how do I get one.
