I was in search of some inexpensive but real castanets for when El Arte Flamenco offers beginner classes. The Meinl rosewood castanets looked like they would fit the bill, and in most respects they do. They are well made in India of Indian rosewood and they produce a "flamenco" sound. The only shortcoming is their size. They are too small for adults and teens. They are, however, a good size for young children learning to play. They will be less frustrating for small hands to manage and therefore motivate youngsters to practice and achieve success.

I bought these online after seeing a You Tube video. I really have a lot of fun with them. It doesn't take long to get pretty good at them but you do have to watch a few videos to get the hang of them. They can be use traditionally but I just tap out a beat and throwing in a few finger rolls. If you want something to keep your hands busy and your finger nimble these are great. Please see the video on You tube "Castanets "Meinl castanets" "castanets solo" Casta?uelas".
