The Mars Series Boom Stand is a solid step-up from an entry-level cymbal stand. It includes a three-tiered height adjustment more common among expensive stands but it maintains an economical price. It includes features like the hide-away boom arm, multi-step tilters, and a thicker tube diameter for greater durability. Available in black or chrome.

Mars is very nice.

So this stand is rather nice. It has the 3 height adjustments. It's nice and solid and would work as a really good back up stand if needed or really would work for concerts/gigs too! The hide away boom makes it nice if you are going to use a short-in-height adjustment and put a ride on it or you can use the boom arm too if you have lots of stands. Now my only thing to say is it doesn't have memory locks which some people like of their stands and others don't because of pack up and clean up. The other thing and I know the armory has (what I'm going to explain) it but the topper on this stand is a screw on but the armory has the topper that comes on and off fast which is a time saver. The fact that it comes in black or chrome is nice because my drum kit has mostly black hardware so it matches really well in back. 4 out of 5 for me!

Just be aware there are tradeoffs for wanting black

I wish other manufacturers offered their hardware in black because it looks really cool. However, here are the tradeoffs... Plastic wing nuts, not steel or aluminum like on Gibraltar. Also, the clutch even though it's geared (meaning having teeth) is a cheaper version of the standard robust geared clutches on Gibraltar or DW. And, I believe the tubes are aluminum instead of steel and all the steel hardware like where the wing nuts are installed is much thinner than normal medium weight stands. All-in-all this is a decent stand for a lightweight stand which is what it is. But for $17 more I can get the best boom stand on the market for the money, Gibraltar 5709, but only in chrome. So for me, it came down to...do I want a black stand that I will have to replace in 3-5 years or do I want a chrome stand for $17 more that will last a lifetime. I decided for the latter and will take back the Mars B600 and buy the Gibraltar. Oh yes, one more thing, it appears that the black paint comes off fairly easily. Even if it doesn't, no way paint will be more durable than chrome over time. So if you're buying this stand to set up and forget, black may be good. However, if you're buying it to travel and gig, forget it! Stay with chrome! I took off one star for the cheaper hardware and plastic wingnuts and another star for the paint adherence.
