Orange County Drum & Percussion Maple Ash Snare Drum 7 x 13 in. Chestnut Matte Finish

Description
This high-performance maple ash snare drum from Orange County Drum & Percussion provides a wide range of tones suitable for any musical style. Constructed from maple and ash plies with die-cast hoops, it produces a lively, focused sound with rich warmth and cutting projection. The fully adjustable throw-off and butt plate allows drummers to easily change between crisp articulation and thunderous power. Paired with high-quality Remo drum heads, the maple ash snare drum delivers impactful tone for recording and live performances. This would be an essential addition to any drummer's arsenal.
Multi-Ply Shell Provides Versatile Tone
The 7-ply maple and ash shell provides an array of tones from warm and punchy to sharp and articulate. At 13" in diameter, this versatile snare projects clearly while retaining a musical note. Die-cast hoops focus the sound for crisp articulation and sensitivity. With medium tension, the maple ash snare produces a balanced tone suitable for most musical styles. Tightening the heads results in an articulate pop for cutting through loud mixes, while loosening creates a fat, vintage thud.
Fully Adjustable Throw-Off
The maple ash snare drum features a fully adjustable throw-off and butt plate to easily change between a wide range of snare tensions. Engaging the throw-off results in a crisp, sensitive snare response for articulating ghost notes and delicate passages. Releasing the snares produces a thunderous, echoing tone. Drummers can adjust the throw-off and butt plate between songs for complete tonal control based on musical context.
High-Quality Remo Drum Heads
This versatile snare drum comes equipped with Remo drum heads, including a coated Ambassador snare-side head and clear Ambassador batter head. Remo is a leader in drum head design, using high-quality materials and construction for dependable tone and durability. The coated snare-side head provides extra warmth and sensitivity, while the clear batter head produces a wide range of articulate tones. These high-performance heads are designed to work in tandem with the maple ash snare drum for musical, impactful results.

This snare sounded pretty nice by itself and blended well with my maple kit - but when I got with the band it just didn't cut through the mix like I thought it would. I swapped the diecast rim for a triple flange and man, did it open up! I got this to use as a back up to my pork pie brass (also a 13x7) so I tuned them the same and now I go back and forth - loving them both! Can't wait for studio time with these. Build quality is solid - the throw off is a bit weak - but as a back up its perfect. The price was ridiculous so swapping in a better throw off will happen down the road. No regrets!

Good snare and decent range in pitch. It also looks beautiful. But... the problem I have with this is that the snare wires become loose very fast. I play like punk rock and stuff like that so I do hit a lot of rim shots and play loud, but I have to tighten it like after every song.

Bought this snare last Friday and used it Sunday. I'm very happy with it, got the pop I was hoping for plus some. Nice and loud and gets through the mix. Can't beat the price either.

I'm looking for something for 9 year old granddaughter who wants to play. Which snare drum could I lease or buy that would not break the bank if she decides this isn't for her?
